.
On July 31, 60 members of Congress signed a letter saying that they would not vote for any health care bill that does not have a public option
(there must have been 5 signatures added later)

1. And many have since said they'll continue to fight for a public option
after voting yes on HC reform.

3. This was not the pledge they made
A person is as good as their word. If you can you are willing to break it, do not make it in the first place. Words mean things. A promise not kept is just that, a failure to be true to your word, it is a batch of people who wish to pretend they are what they are not in the end able to be. Courageous.
None of them had to make that pledge. One kept it, 64 are not good for their word. Period.

4. Will you feel the same way after Kucinich comes out in support
of the bill?

Words are meant to persuade at times.

7. So which lie do you believe? The one they told in July, or the lie you just cited?
Continue to fight WHEN? After DADT and DOMA are repealed? After NAFTA is renegotiated? After the economy is fixed and everyone has jobs again?

2. I reminded DeFazio of that pledge
His letter back was terse talking points, very defensive, not like his usual self, first time I have read him as a run of the mill Party line guy. No longer trusting his word, as it is clearly not to be trusted. He can rationalize until the jobs come back to the 4th district, but he pledged and then failed to keep it. There is in fact, a word for that.

14. Damn Progressive Caucus.
Don't you just hate it when they aim high, push for something you believe in then, when they realize it's unobtainable for now, decide to compromise (my god, compromise in politics!) and support an imperfect HCR to keep republicans and HIC's from totally defeating reform AGAIN.

You may want to hang the Progressive Caucus out to dry, but they are the best thing we have going in Congress. If (none of us know how the Caucus members are going to vote on this HCR this week) most vote "Yes", I will trust (more than I would trust my own rep, blue dogs, or, obviously. republicans) that they weighed the pros and cons and decided that was a better vote than "No". If most vote "No", the status quo for the time being ("starting over" as the Orange Man wants) must be preferable in their minds to what must be a really stinky bill.
