FONTANA, Calif. -- Carl Edwards' cell phone chimed, and all heads turned.

"Just an accountant," the Sprint Cup driver said.

Excuse Edwards if he jumps a little these days each time his phone rings. Wife Kate is back home in Columbia, Mo., preparing to give birth, and the future daddy is half a continent away getting his No. 99 car ready for Sunday's event at Auto Club Speedway. Erik Darnell, who drove a Nationwide Series car for Roush Fenway Racing last season, is on standby this weekend in case Edwards gets the call.

4. Thought this was about John Edwards..does anybody know if

he did take that parental test. The reason I ask is I heard on the news today that the Hunter woman had told Jeff Goldblum whom she was going with that HE was the father of her child. Now they both couldn't. I guess Edwards just admitted without the test. Or did he. Goldblum was the intelligent one he wouldn't admit it. I guess she really was an opportunist. Whom do you think really was the father now. Even she didn't know.
