CBS News Channel 5 Arizona has announced that Sheriff Joe Arpaio
is seriously considering running for Governor. This would be the ultimate disaster for Arizona. Apparently Joe "tweeted" today that his wife has joined those who want him to run and he not must make his decision. I am so sorry for Terry Goddard. He really doesn't need this. Arpaio has threatened and stalked him and his family and now potentially to be his opponent? The most corrupt sheriff possibly in history, and one, for whatever reason, the RW love! And some Democrats as well. This is just disgusting.
Between the national news and what is happening in my state and all the good Democrats that are held out to dry, I just can't take this anymore.
The only thing that is good about any of this is that if anyone can take this it is Terry Goddard. He is soft spoken but strong. God help us all.

1. Arpaio, governor... that could be really bad nows
and not just for Az... oh god...

Hopefully he can be defeated, and sent a packing... to jail preferably. He is as corrupt as a three dollar bill.

5. No, prison.
If he gets sent packing, it would be a state prison.

He's an old fart and people know it
But still, this is a slightly red State. Issue is old folks vote en masse while the younger blue folks don't and that's how a somewhat balanced State turns red.

24. Good point. But I don't think Arpaio has it in him to be governor.
That's, like, real work. Unlike preening with your posse and your tank.

They let the GOP leg and Senate work for them. Remember Jane Hull? Folks compared her to a potted plant!

Arizona was once a more democratic state. But hell, even Goldwater looks more liberal than the kooks that are in some governmental positions today.

4. On the plus side
His entire record becomes aired for the public to see

People are fine with knowing it probably exists.
When they know it exists then they get the case of the vapors

Besides him running may force the Justice Department to speed up their investigation of him

13. He toys with the idea of running for Governor every 4 years and the local media laps it up.
But his law-n-order anti-immigrant schtick only goes so far and I think even his narcissistic reptilian peabrain grasps that. It's way too late in election season for him to be making these noises if he were serious.

Edited on Wed Mar-17-10 01:56 AM by saracat
This tweet was from him and the threat is real. And it isn't way too late at all. He has till almost the end of May to file.He likely wouldn't run clean so he can grab large clumps of cash for his friends. This might be personal with him because it is Terry. And he doesn't do it every four years. He endorsed Janet.

26. . They could split the vote and he could win.His major challange is Dean Martin
Edited on Wed Mar-17-10 02:19 AM by saracat
and While Dean is just as bad as Joe, I think Joe could take him out. Terry has trouble with either Joe or Dean. This isn't a good thing. The only positive thing that might happen is if they do bloody one another up enough to cause damage in a contested primary. The only problem with that is Deans "sad story" is going to get him extra points. In some ways, Terry might actually better off facing Joe. Jan looks more like toast every day.

I,too, think it is most likely Dean will be the nominee. And a less competent Governor we couldn't find unless we looked to Palin.I really hope Terry pulls this out of the bag.

12. And our Arizona Democratic Party did very little to stop this.
They were among the best, if not the best, funded State Party in the nation in 2008. But somehow, they didn't consider the local races important. We were slated to pick seats up and instead lost almost every race. And there was no down line vote.People voted for President and were done. The party didn't promote the locals and without Janet Napolitano's veto pen, we were and are toast.

34. My kids are in a charter school
The public schools are so bad, we did not take a risk. They are actually receiving very good education, they surprised me a few times when we were doing math homework.

But it's true they were the only 2, besides another little girl (Hispanic and catholic, in a mostly LDS neighborhood) whose parents had voted for Obama, so much they were shunned for a while but they stood their ground.

We are attached to a poorer district with a decrepit school and over-worker teachers.

Yes, I know, the solution is to campaign for better funding, better public education.

My kids future can't wait, unfortunately.

And yes, homework is as important.

I just KNEW that Barack Obama shouldn't have called Janet Neopolitano into his cabinet... she was much needed where she was!

I lived in AZ from 2004 - 2007. Joe Arpaio as governor would be HORRID! When I read your subject heading, I was hoping that the announcement was that he was retiring! It was a shock, to say the least, to see that he's possibly going to run for governor!

Thanks for the post.

He has a strong base of very bad groups that will scare, intimadate, and harrass people. I know first hand after dealing with them. I don't think Joe can win, but I do hope the federal investigations will soon remove him since the people of Arizona can't seem to remove this man of only a less than 39% approval HELP!!!!

48. Sadly, I agree.
I honestly and truthfully believe if the GOP retakes congress and Palin becomes president in 2012 we WILL have another great depression that will be worse than even the last depression. Their ideas of Reaganomics never work and every time they try it, it's always a disaster and no matter how many times it fails, they always blame it on something else and try again. We barely miss a depression this time. If it does happen, you'll see people crossing over into Canada and Mexico.

Personally, I can't stand him and I'm sure he will be a terrible gov. On the other hand, he could widen the ever-growing rift on the right, which could only help the Dems down the road. If some were ever concerned about Tancredo, this guy makes Tancredo look like the tooth fairy.
