Meet CNN's Newest Contributor: The Guy Who Called Souter A Goat-F*cker
Rachel Slajda | March 17, 2010, 8:48AM

CNN announced Tuesday that they hired Erick Erickson, the editor of RedState, as a political contributor for John King's new show, a show which they've promoted as a doubling down on straight news.

There's a bit of a contrast here. Erickson is, as CNN says, a voice the right side of the Internet listens to. Conservative lawmakers read his site and, occasionally, use it to break news. He's been named on "most influential" lists and has pushed hard for conservative candidates like Marco Rubio. He's a city councilman in Macon, Ga.

But he's also prone to making extreme and sometimes misogynistic public comments.

He's called a Supreme Court justice a "goat-fucking child molester." Last month, he told "ugly" "feminazis" to "return to their kitchens." He's compared an administration official to a Nazi and called First Lady Michelle Obama a "Marxist harpy."

Asked about the comments, a CNN spokeswoman told TPM: "Erick is one of the many voices that you'll hear on CNN. We believe viewers are smart enough to appreciate hearing all points of view."

Erickson's insights include posing the question, "What Do Sarah Palin and Jesus Christ Have In Common?"

1. the point is, we ARENT hearing a multitude of views, we're only getting one
because they keep hiring rabid right wingers... and then acting like they're not being heard already.

3. I have been saying for years that CNN is worse than FOX
They have an air of credibility that is undeserved and false. We know what we have with FOX. CNN is the one we need to be careful of.

13. CNN worse than Fox? Really?
When Fox is the one with the Triple Threat of Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck?

Whose news reporting is influenced heavily by Beck's silly show?

When CNN has at least bothered to debunk conservative misinformation?

Oh yeah, I don't deny that CNN has its share of right-wing bias. But at least it has some level of integrity compared with FNC. It appears that MSNBC is the only really good cable news network these days with the aggro reporting of Keith Olbermann, Lawrence O'Donnell, Rachel Maddow, and Dylan Ratigan.

15. As I said the stuff you point out is what makes CNN 100 times more dangerous
Edited on Wed Mar-17-10 11:18 AM by NNN0LHI
Everyone knows that FOX is the media arm of the RNC. CNN does the same stuff as FOX does but they are just slicker about it. Which fools many people.

5. '...appreciate hearing all points of view'
Yes, CNN is committed to bringing commentary from all points of the spectrum - from neocons to teabaggers, from talibornagain theocrats to Randian propellerheads...yep, the whole schmeer of batshit loonery dished-up without hint of irony.

6. Cnn sucks big time
or was really starting to when I last watched them about 3 years ago. I'm not going to subject myself to that lying ass crews propaganda ever again. I'm not surprised at all at them doing this though and thanks for the post as it only reinforces the feeling I have toward them and their masters.

8. TAKE ACTION, info here....
"I did not realize the Nobel Peace Prize had an affirmative action quota," wrote Erickson, who ... laughed at the idea that Obama had improved America's standing in the world.

Source: Email fr Media Matters, Oct. 09.

And in an email fr. FAIR yesterday:

"Who is Erickson? Well, he's a racist who declared that Barack Obama won the Nobel Prize because of "affirmative action quotas" (Think Progress, 10/9/09).
He's a misogynist who suggested that "feminazis were enraged" by an anti-abortion Super Bowl ad because "that's what being too ugly to get a date does to your brain."
He urged that "ugly feminists return to their kitchens" (Media Matters, 2/8/10).
He's a homophobe who asserted that "the full gay rights agenda" means that "men and boys can have sexual relationships free of prudish moral people frowning" (Media Matters, 10/9/09)."

ACTION: Please write to CNN and ask them to explain how hiring a commentator of Erick Erickson's ilk can possibly conform to the network's standards and practices.

Here's what I sent:

I'm so glad that you're adding Erick to the lineup. People have sometimes confused CNN with "Liberal" or "Unbiased" media. Hopefully, the hiring of this hate mongering bigot – actually quite entertaining – will help to dispel any misunderstanding of your place in the media spectrum.

Thanks again.

11. Why does anyone watch TV news?
We all know it for what it is. So why does anyone watch it? I can get headlines much faster here at DU than I can on TV. I can also easily follow up those headlines.

TV news is useless.

It's also not news.

Stop watching and it will go away.

Haven't looked at CNN for the past six years.
Life is better without that garbage.
