Seven years old -- and suicide??!!
In Florida -- just look at this tyke and despair at the lack of any sane supervision of his development. Breaking my heart.

2. That is horrific!! Bipolar people (if he really was) are pretty high up there on the

suicide risk chart. (1 in 5 is it?) But the wrong meds can get you there too.

I can't even fathom a 7 yr old doing that.

This is why we are trying to deal with our boy's behavior issues first, to totally rule them out before looking at whether or not he is early onset BP like me. (It' scary how much he _is_ like me, which has me worried.)

6. Good for you in exploring
all avenues, including family history, before embarking on suspect meds.

My niece committed suicide in her early 20's over 30 years ago and I still think a modern endocrine exam in addition to truly professional talk therapy with a psychiatrist as opposed to a generic "counselor" could have tailored the proper treatment for her tail spin into her final moments. I weep for her after all these years.

Am a firm believer in proper diet and lots of exercise to augment any other treatment. She was sugar dependent and way too overwieght and sedentary for her physical and emotional health.

I wish you all the vigilant help you need for your son.

3. Diagnosed as a Bipolar Depressive at the age of 7. That doesn't sound right.
I would surmise that mood disorders would not be fully formed at such a formative stage. Since I'm not knowledgeable about Developmental Psychology, I defer in complete confusion.

I know that giving psychoactive medications to children is controversial, but how about diagnosing a child so young with a mood disorder?

4. I am positive I was early onset bipolar and have known a few others as well, although they
were all bp1 instead of 2.

5. They said 13% of all these kids are on these drugs
I guess better (cheaper) to just mask the problem then actually deal with it
