Progress Is Not Letting The Republicants Embarrass President Obama |
|
Edited on Wed Mar-17-10 03:10 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
That is reason enough to support the present health care reform bill for all it flaws.
When Rush, Beck, Hannity, and the Teabaggers are on one side I want to be on the other side.

That's why I'm so confused around here lately... too many here apparently agree with that bunch... astounding.

The bill is a trojan horse. They are trying to use it to undermine his presidency.

So they can use it as a talking point in November. Plus, their whole stance in general is "whatever Obama is for, we're against" and there's no changing that.

15. So if you support the bill you also agree and support the insurance companies |
|
Is that how that works, like your statement?
Progressives and RWer's can both be opposed to the Health Insurance Reform for different reasons and still be on opposite sides. Progressives want a stronger bill, RWer's want no bill (even though I believe they support the bill in theory for the corporations and Wall Street, it is all old Republican ideas, but have to oppose it for show).

Which is the real reason for much of the opposition from the right. They want to ruin his presidency.

There is no way to "win" this, it's a loser whichever way it falls. The midterms are going to render the rest of Obama's first term impotent anyway so that isn't an excuse to make a huge mistake like this bill.

They seem rather silent on the whole matter. Haven't seen any commercials, CEO or VP's on the news or talk shows, etc. I think their cronies are voting to pass this bill.

I don't want to support fascism, or mandates or fines and here we are with most Democratics being forced to support all three just so the opposition can't make hay with it.

The Republicants are trying to kill the bill because they know a deafeat of this bill after he has invested in so much time and prestige will cripple his presidency.
If you think a crippled Obama presidency is a good thing there is nothing I can do to disabuse you of that notion.

16. Being an advocate for this bill because you ... |
|
don't like the conservative opposition is really not a compelling reason to pass it. I don't like it either and I am a Progressive Democrat. This is a bad bill. I would much rather see it go down and start over with a better bill. This bill benefits the insurance industry and does not provide health care to the people who most need it.
If the conservatives refused to drive cars would you refuse to drive a car yourself simply because they were doing it? There are times when you have to step outside the box and act based on only your own thoughts and feelings of what is right or wrong. If you love this bill yourself and can't live without it, that's one thing. If you are saying "this must be good because of some of the people who oppose it," that is another thing and you have allowed your feelings to rule your intellect.

It would be bad for him, not us. What Obama did and continues to do would be bad for us. I really don't care about his presidency anymore. Once he started cutting deals with special interests, threatening other Democrats if they didn't support them and basically letting people die for want of help he could easily give them, I can't call what he is doing a "presidency." Whatever you call it, it is not worth saving anyway. It never was. What people saw in him was an illusion he carefully cultivated and sold the way he sold his constituency. He has disgraced his office and he has disgraced himself. He should answer for his actions like anyone else who makes deals with special interests. I think he is a disgrace to the office. I wish I had never voted for him or supported him.
