Sacramento repeat sex offender arrested 16 days after jail release

SACRAMENTO, CA - A repeat sex offender released from prison just over two weeks ago was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of being up to his old ways, according to a Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesman.

Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Team officers took Robert Winston Precobb, 55, into custody on suspicion of child molestation and failure to register his address change, said Sgt. Tim Curran.

Precobb was picked up at a Sacramento motel by officers acting on information from a Sacramento Police Department report, Curran said. In the report, Curran said Precobb was accused of initiating a relationship with a 14-year-old.

According to the detectives' investigation, Precobb was believed to have had the victim in his room, provided alcohol and had inappropriate sexual conversations, Curran said.

...

Curran said Precobb had been behind bars for approximately 20 years before his unconditional release. Curran said Precobb had been serving a 15 years to life sentence when his sentence was vacated on a technicality.

Precobb was diagnosed as a mentally disordered sex offender, Curran said.
