Another dumb facebook group
This one's called "I'm in America, I shouldn't have to Press 1 for English."

Is this actually a problem for people?

Someone in the comments section literally says, "We were here first," meaning English speakers.

Not really sure what you are trying to say.

8. No kidding, Mz Pip...
I wonder, at times, about the unnecessary problems and outrage we submit ourselves to.

11. I used to get
an endless chain of anti-immigration, brown people, poor people, Obama supporters, Rush and Beck fueled hate emails from a cousin-in-law until I couldn't take it anymore and just had to sever ties. I could just see her at her computer constantly being pissed off. So much of this crap was just manufactured outrage that in the grand scheme of things was pretty irrelevant to making anyone's life better or worse.

I can't imagine living my life in a constant state of outrage over dumb stuff: Press 1 for English ranks right up there. I just don't want to get sucked up in all of the negative energy that this kind of "horror" creates. What a waste.

I think it was "This is america, speak OUR language" or some such shit.. I commented on his notification "I agree!", in Navajo (or it might have been Ojibwe... )

4. At least we get to go first. It would be more annoying to have
to listen to press 1 for Spanish, 2 for some other language and so on. Having to wait to get to select English. Is it always just English and Spanish? I never stay on and listen to hear if there are any more choices. Maybe French, if it's a business that is also providing customer service in Canada?

6. That's why we get #1, as
#2 would be so much more difficult.

Does someone want to show me how to do the "Sarcasm"?

9. Too bad history books are so damned dumbed down
Otherwise these English only chauvinists would know they were here SECOND and even at that, the dominant language in the Colonies at the time of the Revolution was German, the first large wave of immigrants, one reason an official language wasn't written into the constitution. The WASPS who wrote it knew they were on shaky ground there.

Spain claimed Florida in 1513 and the southwest in 1540. The Pilgrims didn't veer off course and find themselves stuck in New England until 80 years later, 1620. To this day, no WASP wants to admit that people from other countries as well as native tribes were here to welcome that boat.

Even the Dutch beat the Pilgrims, founding New Amsterdam in 1614.

Ignorant, provincial, xenophobic English only types always bring up the Pilgrims. If they hadn't blown off course and had landed near Jamestown as they'd planned, likely we'd never have heard much about them. As it was, they were Johnny Come Lately types our dumbed down history classes seem to think were the first ones here and the only ones worth citing as having founded the colonies since they were religious nuts.

"We were here first," my flabby not all European old ass.

10. They prefer to press 2?
Oh, I think I get it.

They want English if they press nothing. Non-English speakers would have to press a button to change from the default.

Oh, the humanity!

12. I especially dislike Texans who say "we were here first"
I live in Texas and I feel like I am the only person here who actually wants to learn spanish and enjoys that our country is diverse.

16. Increasingly, I'm hearing a quick message in Spanish saying to press 2 for Spanish
and if I do nothing, I get English. I assume that's because of complaints from thin-skinned English-speaking customers.

If that's the main complaint they have about voice-menu systems, then they're luckier than I am.
