Our government couldn't put forth...

...a government health insurance plan option.

Obvious who they really work for.
Obvious it is not our government.

2. "Those are no small achievements. "
What about the legislation itself--what does it accomplish? On a concrete level, it expands health insurance to as many as 30 million Americans who are currently not covered; on a symbolic one, it makes clear that the government--not the market--is responsible for healthcare. Those are no small achievements.

3. the POINT
is that pols in this nation are so fucking craven they cannot even try to bring the U.S. into a better position than a former communist country in terms of health care for citizens.

that's the point.

this bill is an illustration of how backward and broken the American govt is, in relation to the desires of the electorate.

I'm proud of the people who stood up to fight for Americans. They are the ones who make me proud of this nation.

Everything else is irrelevant.

9. Actually, most Communist countries have traditionally had good health care programs.

11. here are the stats
http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthranks.html

the U.S. is ranked 37th, just above Belarus.

Also, in the UN Development Index, which ranks quality of life, the U.S. is NOT EVEN IN THE TOP TEN!

This nation is such a political shitpile that, even with a majority in favor of universal health care, it doesn't happen.

Even during the worst economic crisis since the great depression.

The U.S. is the ONLY nation in the western world that does not view health care as a human right for those who reside in its borders.

The U.S. hung in as 10 for educational systems - EVERYONE OF THE TOP TEN NATIONS has universal health care... except for the U.S.

The same people who are saying that universal health care cannot work here were also saying that Kennedy's unemployment pool was commie, wouldn't work, etc. etc. tho that same legislation has saved many asses over the years.

I don't see anything to be proud of in this legislation. it's yet another illustration of how backward this nation is.

17. succinct analysis
I don't post often here though I've been a donor for many years.

Your post is a sad but very concise and completely true analysis.

I agree completely with that analysis.

The worst part of it all is that it hasn't always been that way and it doesn't have to be that way in this country.

6. There IS, however, a requirement that exchanges include a non-profit provider and CO-OPs.
Edited on Wed Mar-17-10 11:08 PM by NYC_SKP
"Although there will not be a public plan option in the Exchanges, the Office of Personnel Management, which administers the Federal Employees Health Benefit Program, will contract with private insurers to offer at least two multi‐state plans in each Exchange, including at least one offered by a non‐profit entity. In addition, funds will be made available to establish non‐profit, member‐run health insurance CO‐OPs in each state."

:applause:

So much for being forced to line the pockets of health care industry executives.

10. Really. Shred, we get it. You keep posting threads with the same theme and
those who agree hop on board. You're pissed, disgusted, hurt, betrayed, this administration sucks, Obama works for the corporations... How many times do you have to post that? Doesn't focusing on it non-stop just make you even more upset?

I know, I don't have to click on the thread. Good advice, I won't.

Carry on.

14. you can read people you ignore if you choose to
click on the OP, then click on "printer format" in the top left side of the thread.

this flattens the view and includes anyone you have on ignore.

you cannot reply directly to anyone you have on ignore, but you can read something if you want.

sometimes it's simply useful to hide the entire thread.
