Meg Whitman's Tax Plan Would Cut Her Own in Half. LOL

Meg Whitman isn't one of those Republicans who says the answer to everything is a sweeping tax cut. California's budget problems are bigger than that. We can only afford to cut taxes on the rich.

On Tuesday, Multiple Meg issued MEG 2010: Building a New California, a 48-page "policy agenda" that looks like a brochure for a Third World police state trying to look like an issue of Time. And she laid it on the line about taxes:

We simply cannot afford a big, across-the-board tax cut that would irresponsibly grow the state's already oversized debt level and drop our bond rating to junk status."

That would be irresponsible. So we have to face facts. We have to be adults.

And totally eliminate the state tax on capital gains.

Okay, I think I may have lost you there. That sounds kind of "big." But that's because MEG 2010: Building a New California isn't really a policy document. It's more like a text-based game of Three-card Monte.

Keep your eye on the red queen.

1. At this time, we can't afford any tax cuts at all
We are struggling to stay afloat as it is, this would push revenue further down. Growth can't be spurred with tremendous deficit, it just doesn't work like that. More mismanagement is exactly what we don't need and this is what her plan is, gross mismanagement.

4. Whitman's multi million $ coming out Ad campaign, and this corp tax paper have popped too soon...
Unlike Brown, Whitman is showing little natural ability to engage California on any other level than a republican corporatist seeking '0' tax status for her crony base and hostile takeovers and relations with everyday Californians. My sense is that Brown's team is watching and listening carefully to Team Meg 2010 - and when Jerry engages we'll see Whitman for the untethered republican snark she represents

10. Is that true?
I've been wondering if she came from money. Any links? Wiki is pretty mute on this part of her past.

7. Now that was an excellend takedown...
...and someone needs to distill it and make a 30-second spot about it for use by Jerry Brown's campaign, when the time is right.

9. "We can't have irresponsible tax cutting so let's cut taxes irresponsibly"
Edited on Thu Mar-18-10 01:40 PM by Retrograde
This has been happening since Bush the 1st: the only fiscal plan Republicans seem to be able to come up with is cut the capital gains tax. Probably because many of them don't actually have salaries or other regular pay and live off trust funds.

As a retired person living on investments this would lower my taxes. But as a Californian it would not benefit me in the long run.
