HIR Its Going to Pass. and that sucks
Health Insurance Reform is going to pass and as a progressive I am devastated. What will happen now is the president and the dems will put a check in the box and be done with it. The insurance companies will get more rich and we will get more poor. If you don't believe that then you are fooling yourself.

Look at the realities

1. What motivation does anyone have to change anything in the bill once it passes. Obama wont be in office and most likely neither will Reid or Pelosi when the entirety of the measures kick in. So right now they get to crow about the "WIN" and the people get to eat that crow.

2. No party stays in power forever and mush of the regulation will simply be rolled back when the rw comes back into power.

3. Most Dems are so drunken with Obamas charisma they really don't care what passes as long as something passes

4. The progressive movement lost this one because they were not able to even set a seat at the table for single payer

5. This bill does not offer universal coverage for all people cradle to grave.

5. Those who fail to learn from history are destined to repeat it...
(as per my sigline)--and also fail to benefit from it...

Perhaps those who are settling into despair that a bill is being passed that is so far from meeting our real needs, should read the history of the passage of both social security and especially medicare... The latter was crap as initially passed, yet induced tremendous fights... Once passed lots of effort and further bills were required to make it what it is today.

I would also send you to Alan Grayson's site. This guy is no quitter and is pushing on with efforts to open medicare for all.

Don't give into despair... DO SOMETHING that will keep reform efforts moving forward

9. Its sort of a lame argument

That of comparing the exansion of government run socialized services to a potential expansion of a private for-profit mandated system. In one instance, there is no profit and its designed soley to help the people, and in the other, it is ruled by private profits and a powerful, integrated lobby machine. Yes, it may expand, but there is no guarantee whatsoever it will do so benevolently in the favor of the people.

But, then, I fear (as have many on this thread) that you are only intent on causing disruption, not discussing.

20. If the expansion of medicare is successful...
it may well eliminate the issue (and one with which I agree strenuously). I hate the fact that this bill allows the for-profit corrupt insurance system to reap the benefits, at the expense of the public.

Edited on Thu Mar-18-10 12:35 PM by dflprincess
the people on this board who think it's just the best thing to happen since the New Deal would be screaming bloody murder. But, like with so many questionable things, if Obama supports it's okay.

It appears that sometimes it's necessary to let the Democrats take "control" because when it comes to destroying the middle and working classes there's some things only Democrats can get by with. Remember, the DLC has Social Security on Medicare "reform" on its hit list - something Rahm and his brother Zeke both want and if Obama didn't want it too, he probably wouldn't have both of them on his payroll. Be afraid.

Its NOT ENOUGH!!

Keep pushing, keep complaining. I like it. Nothing ever gets changed by sitting down and shutting up. So I really like this spirit I see on DU about the HIR.

of letting us see who would prefer a win for Rush
above a win for Democrats.
