Whistleblower Agency Calls Wolfowitz Poster Child For Hypocrisy

Despite World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz's claim that he is the victim of a "smear campaign" and a ploy seeking his resignation, the Government Accountability Project has released a press release citing serious inconsistencies in Wolfowitz's statements regarding the firestorm linked to a pay deal for Shaha Riza - a communications specialist at the Bank, who is also the Bank President's girlfriend.

In an email to AHN, GAP said, "the Government Accountability Project (GAP) is calling attention to inaccuracies and misrepresentations in the documents World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz and his legal team provided to the World Bank Ad Hoc Committee."

The GAP has accused Wolfowitz and his legal team of using "unprecedented circumstances" to ease their way out of the issue: "When discussing the salary raises provided to Riza, the crux of the issue before the Board, there are suddenly previous cases of compensation. Wolfowitz and his legal team are citing unprecedented circumstances and precedent circumstances when it suits them in an attempt to cherry-pick information."

Wolfowitz also said in his statements that "for the Directors now to declare my actions to be improper and to criticize me would be unjust and frankly hypocritical."

GAP International Program Director Bea Edwards said in an email, "Paul Wolfowitz, through his actions and words, is himself a poster child for hypocrisy."
