Prosecutors: Teens roamed the streets solely to target, kill a Hispanic immigrant
Prosecutors Describe ‘Hunt’ for Hispanic Victim
by Manny Fernandez
The New York Times

In a packed Long Island courtroom, opening statements in the trial of the young man charged with killing an Ecuadorean immigrant began late Thursday morning with a prosecutor laying out, often in chilling detail, the “sport” that the defendant and his friends had made out of attacking Hispanic men.

The defendant, Jeffrey Conroy, 19, was one of seven Patchogue-Medford High School students whom the police and prosecutors said targeted and attacked the immigrant, Marcelo Lucero, in November 2008 because he was Hispanic. The fatal stabbing shocked many on Long Island and focused new attention on assaults and harassment of Latinos in the area.

“On Nov. 8, 2008, the hunt was on,” Megan O’Donnell, the prosecutor, told 12 jurors and four alternates in State Supreme Court in Riverhead in Suffolk County.

She described how seven teenagers, including Mr. Conroy, roamed the streets of the village of Patchogue that Saturday evening for one purpose: To find a Hispanic person to assault.

The report also details the racist, white supremacist sentiments that the teenagers harbored. I think it'll be pretty hard to acquit, won't it?

In 2009, two teenagers in Shenandoah, Pa. were acquitted of murder and ethnic intimidation but convicted of only simple assault after the fatal beating of Mexican immigrant Luiz Ramirez on July 12, 2008.

4. Not really
Just means they're a senior who's birthday falls during the school year. or that they got held back once - I was held back in 8th grade because I failed to participate in gym due to the abuse I suffered while "dressing out" in the locker room.

3. Pics. Shine some light on this waste of air, pieces of shit.

The accused, Jeffrey Conroy (17 and the principle defendant who is accused of plunging a knife into Lucero's chest and his friends beat the victim), Christopher Overton (16), Jose Pacheco (17), Kevin Shea (17), Nicholas Hausch (17), Jordan Dasch (17), and Anthony Hartford (17) face more charges in connection with incidents in which Latino men were beaten unconscious and robbed, beaten with a pipe while being told he would be killed, and held down while being slashed with a knife. Prosecutors say that the teens went on violent sprees that targeted Latinos for 13 months before the Lucero killing.

5. How is it shocking?
Hispanics are constantly portrayed as some subhuman, disease-bearing, thieving enemy in the media and popular culture. Both right and left media outlets despise "illegals" and never make any real distinction between illegals or legals - not that anyone on the street can tell the difference between someone with hteir papers, someone who jumped the fence, or someone who's just here for the afternoon to do some shopping.

I'm not surprised, and I'm not shocked - I am disgusted.

6. One of these thugs is named Jose Pacheco, and another is African American.
No doubt others are second/third generation immigrants. Good gawd -- the self-loathing in this pack must be palpable.
