New Mexico Business Weekly

Despite its recent troubles, Toyota models ranked high in J.D. Power and Associates’ 2010 Vehicle Dependability Study, topping four of 19 segments.

J.D. Power surveyed owners of three-year-old vehicles, asking them whether they had experienced problems in any of nearly 200 different areas.

The Toyota Prius ranked first in the compact car segment, the Sequoia topped the large multi-activity vehicle category, the Tundra was first among large pickups and the Highlander topped the midsize multi-activity vehicle segment. The Corolla, 4Runner, Solara, Sienna and Yaris also placed among the top three in their categories.

Toyota’s premium Lexus line also was the among the top three models in three categories.

6. Sounds about right to me
We've owned our Prius for more than four years. Problems = 0.

Before that, we owned a Camry for 12 years. I think around year 10 we had to put new brake calipers on.

7. We've had 9 Toyotas since 1983 (still have the first 83 one) with zero unexpected
or serious problems. I hope nobody accuses me of being one of their employees, I and my SO just have no reason to criticize them, we're just regular guys who like good cars. To be honest, we're both pretty damn good mechanics and know how to recognize and head off a lot of potential problems but we do that with all other vehicles we own as well.

(The 83 is a longbed pickup with about 220000 miles and has never had the heads or the pan off, still runs great. There is some rust but not at all excessive for a 27 year old truck in our opinion)

9. Current Toyota management hasn't managed to totally undermine the company yet.
But give them time.
