How many of you think that Obama will amend the HCR |
|
bill once passed? Is it possible it has been his plan all along to merely bow to the insurance companies, etc., and then turnabout in our favor after it's all said and done?
I'm not saying he's a puppet, but something just isn't right, and it hasn't been right for a long time.

1. He will definitely not amend it -- but Congress may. |
|
The question is whether and how Congress will amend it.

2. I think he'll take it just as he gets it. He has said he will sign whatever passes Congress. |
|
If he does do a last minute fix it will be in another universe, not this one.

3. Government 101: He can't amend the HCR bill. He's the President. |
|
All a president can do is sign or veto legislation. Congress would have to amend it. He could recommend certain amendments, but he can't make them.

16. Exactly. If they loose the majority Republicans will expend every |
|
effort to gut the bill. If they simply try to repeal it without having a two-thirds majority vote in both the House of Representatives and Senate, Obama will either veto it outright or pocket veto that sucker.
But they can gut and defund anything in the bill.
The fear of the GOP, and it is justified, that once HCR is enacted Americans will like it, as they like Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. Real efforts to gut those have been soundly defeated every time. But the GOP uses Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, swearing to get rid of them, even though they would never do it, to raise money from their half wit constituents. It gives them one more thing to raise money with. They will swear to end that Socialist Obamacare program if they are just given the power...

11. No, he is not going to send the most progressive Health Care bill since Medicare and Medicaid... |
|
back to Congress.
AS they did with Social Security, The Civil Rights Act of 1964, Medicare, Medicaid, Schip, and almost every historical piece of legislation, the House and the Senate will ammend it to make it better.
That is how we do things in the U.S.

22. Many ammendments are simply added as small parts of other bills. |
|
For how they ammendmed Social Security: ( http://www.ssa.gov/history/law.html) 1965: Social Security Act Amendments (Medicare and Medicaid) ( http://www.allamericanpatriots.com/american_historical_documents_1965_social_security_act_amendments_medicare_and_medicaid) (Both Schip and the Medicare drug benefit made ammendments to Medicare adn Medicaid) Civil Rigths Act of 1964 ( http://www.archives.gov/education/lessons/civil-rights-act/) but among other Title IX that brought equal rights for women teachers. These are not exhaustive resoureces. Each of the massive progressive bills have been amendmend many times. It is easier to amend an existing piece of legislation.

It is at best throwing us some bones because they can't ignore us dying as much as we have anymore. Those who govern us know that they can't get away with ignoring our health care crisis, so they are throwing us a few bones. That's all that is happening.

Why should they? They already got what they wanted.
Obama certainly won't lean on them, once he has a bill he can sign.

He has no power to write a bill either.
But we elected him and here it is. Think we would have had this if McCain was elected? Of course not. If McCain was elected wouldn't be looking at this history changing moment.
here are hundreds of things that A president doesn't have the power to do, but nonetheless is credited because he uses his influence and leadership to get it done.
I think everyone understands that the question is actually "Will Obama provide the leadership and direct Congress to amend the bill"

I think he decided that he'd try to get a framework in place that could be amended and tinkered with afterwards.
