The teabaggers changed their name right in front of us
Tea Party my ass, they were and still are teabaggers with all of the deviant imagery that's supposed to bring up. You named yourselves so suck it up.

1. Well, the Mad Hatter is not the sanest image, either.
And with all the Alice publicity, what else would "tea party" conjure?

3. Let's see what the urban dictionary has to say about this practice
man that squats on top of a womens face and lowers his genitals into her mouth during sex, known as "teabagging"

But now they are trying to disavow their term. It's a little embarrassing to them and isn't that just too, too, bad.

4. Being a Bostonian through and through
the fact that these people are using the true heroics of the REAL Tea Party for their foul and reprehensible gain is anathema to me. They make me sick.

5. They always called themselves the Tea Party
They wanted people to bring tea bags to all their events, and Rachel Maddow gave them the name "teabaggers".

I suspect Democrats who know what teabaggers means are the ones who won't use the term in public because some people would find it offensive if they knew what it meant.

12. That doesn't go to Keith
Besides, can you just recap, with the date and context. I hate having to watch a Youtube and then half the time I don't even know what somebody else thought they heard to begin with.

Googling *olbermann the teabaggers gave themselves that name* which should bring you there. I could tell you but it wouldn't be as good.

17. They did not call themselves teabaggers
Keith doesn't even say they did. They started telling people to bring tea bags to events, and mail tea bags to DC, Tea Bag The Fools - but never said they were personally teabaggers. Rachel is the one who pushed the term "teabagger", night after night after night. I don't know why she's pretending she didn't push it into the media, her and David Schuster as I recall. That's what happened though.

Here is the post in question,

13. Don't blame Rachel for that! THEY ignorantly called THEMSELVES "teabaggers" and were mocked...
... by folks both here and in the media who knew the smutty meaning of the word. I had to go look it up online :eyes: but I sure remember the sequence of events, and Rachel did not do that.

15. I'm not blaming her, I'm giving her credit
I remember they were taking their tea bags to events and going on and on about tea bags and Rachel took it and ran with it, using the term teabagger.

I believe they are unaware some of us are cursed with a memory.

9. Republicans just have trouble with naming crap
Like the National Organization for Marriage. Not only is their acronym the sound an LOLCat makes when eating, but they started an initiative called 2M4M, which is supposed to be 2 Million for Marriage, but could also be a personal ad of two gay men looking for another for a threesome.

Then the teabaggers came along. Now, you can't tell me that someone at the beginning of this "movement" didn't speak up and say, "Uh, maybe this name isn't such a good idea." Morons they may be, but not all of them are completely socially ignorant. And then they have a big convention in Nashville at the... Gaylord Hotel.

10. When I think of teaparty, I think of little kids playing as adults with imaginary friends.
So I find this political label quite fitting.

16. "Citizens United Not Timid" became "Citizens United".
It's a common RW practice to use labels to try and manipulate a message. In case you missed the message, check out the Acronyms for the anti-Hillary group... pretty vile.

19. Faux News created the teabaggers
Faux News was also using the term "teabaggers" in seriousness before the literate, reality-based community picked up on it and used the right's own term against them.

This is exactly the kind of thing that can and will go wrong with an "astroturf" movement. Astroturf movements are, by definition, designed to appear as if they rose up spontaneously from the masses and spread like wildfire among the honest, hard-working people. In reality, the movements are dreamed up by no more than a few people, and aligned with corporate interests seeking to profit from the illusion of populism. Since astroturf movements don't, at their inception, have the actual mobs of followers that they claim, their ideas "go public" before the masses can give any feedback. so "teabagging" gets a new meaning and it hits the presses before anyone can stop the stupid name from sticking. This is beautiful.

Maybe we can convince Faux to start a movement centered around the symbolic strangling of hens. You know, Republicans are hopping mad and they're "choking their chickens" in protest. :-)

21. Tea-bagging is an apt description given their stated desires for things "rammed down our throat".
Their protest signs should read:

"Dick Armey may be a lady in the street, but I'd bet my surprisingly large tax refund that he's a freak in his c-street bed."
