Don't pump gas on May 15th
Tell all of your friends!!!!!! tell all your family!!!!! TELL EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!

In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices.
Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, all myspace members are asked to not go to a gas station in protest of
high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the
average car takes about 20 to 30 dollars to fill up.

If all internet members did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take
$2,200,000,000.00 + (that's BILLION) out of the oil companys pockets for just one day,
so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the
Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.

If you agree (which I cant see why you wouldnt) repost this bulletin repost it with
'Don't pump gas on May 15th

3. why not?
It was easy for us to change our lifestyle. Moved away from the grocery store out in the burbs and into that part of town where we actually spent most of our "driving time" traveling too. We switched to bicycles and public transportation to get to school and work. So now, we only drive when the weather is really bad or we need to go get food from the grocer. We now average around 17 miles a week and only fill up the tank once a month. When the car dies, it's gone and so are the maintenance and insurance costs. There's always a cab available if we need it and we get to use the savings to build equity in our house.

8. the fact that there is a large concerted effort for everyone to not buy gas
there is no organization for this date, aside from the email.

9. It won't change anything.
and the way gasoline distribution is handled and paid for (by the tanker load), the oil companies won't even see a change in their daily revenue. Individual gas stations will, but not the oil companies. And even the gas stations won't see a change in their monthly revenue numbers.

5. Better idea: Complain to Congress.
Send your Congresscritter a polite letter complaining about the price of gas, and maybe if enough Congresscritters get enough complaints, they'll start investigating, and the oil tycoons will have to take a day off from shopping for that new Gulfstream jet to testify in Congress as to why gas prices are suddenly so high again. Maybe something will leak out implicating them in price manipulation or anti-trust violations, and they'll have to explain that to Congress...

7. every time gasoline goes up
there is this inevitable call for a one day boycott.

And every time someone has to point out that this is just stupid. It won't take ONE dime from the oil companies or accomplish anything else. It's not a call to quit driving, only to quit buying gasoline. But eventually, like the day after or the day after that, you will buy gas. And because you drove the same number of miles in the same gas guzzling car, you will give the oil companies the same amount of money. Just not on the day of the boycott.

Better would be to quit driving for a day or a week. Tele commute or bike or whatever... but just don't drive. THAT would hit them where it hurts.... and who knows, maybe you could make a permanent change and not drive one day a week, or buy a fuel efficient car... and make a much bigger statement.

11. So how expensive is gas, really?
When I first started driving the price of a gallon of gas was 25 cents and a TV Guide was 15 cents.
Now a gallon of gas is $3.00 and a single issue of TV Guide is $2.50. Given inflation, the price of a gallon of gas probably should be about what it is compared to what a TV Guide cost and especially a Twinkie.

On the gas buying thing, what would be the result of millions more people buying their gas on 16 May instead of the 15th? This sounds like a good way for spammers to harvest valid email addresses. In the past I have had people forward this kind of stuff to me and it includes their entire email address book. Smart move.

12. No kidding. The people are still gonna buy the gas. One day events like this are pointless
empty gesture at best.

Good point about the gas/tv guide issue, lol.

The really alarming thing is, gas had never really even come close to hitting two dollars until Bush got into power. So gas can stay below $1.50 for as long as it has been around, but now suddenly the price doubles in six years?
