Attack ad against health bill uses Democrat's young daughters.
Source: Yahoo News

As the House gears up for this weekend’s dramatic vote on health reform legislation, Democrats are taking flak from all sides. In southern Ohio, opponents of the bill have created a blowback effect by airing an ad targeting Rep. Steve Driehaus to stand firm as a "no" vote on the legislation. The ad prominently featured the congressman’s young daughters, in violation of the unwritten law that forbids dragging lawmakers' family members – most especially their underage children – into the fray.

Once Driehaus took note of the ad, and told a reporter from the Cincinnati Enquirer that its content was “outrageous,” the group trying to stymie the bill, the Washington-based Committee to Rethink Reform, issued an apology.

"Politicians' children should not be involved in public political debates and we deeply regret this mistake," it said. A spokeswoman said the group had also offered a direct apology to Driehaus.

This episode is the latest in an ongoing escalation of harsh rhetoric and images in attack ads. And the final push on health care legislation – expected to come to a House floor vote Sunday – has only fueled the flames. One liberal group, for instance, is spending half a million dollars on ads reaching out to African Americans, while conservative groups – in addition to running ads against vulnerable centrist Democratic incumbents like Driehaus – have taken to storming Capitol Hill offices and bombarding the switchboard.

1. But the Cincinnati Enquirer gets a pass for publishing it? DUers in Ohio should write to them.

3. What unwritten law?????
"The ad prominently featured the congressman’s young daughters, in violation of the unwritten law that forbids dragging lawmakers' family members – most especially their underage children – into the fray."

Sarah Palin ignored it from the moment she was called down for, the Price is right, I mean, RepubliCON VP. She dragged that poor Down Syndrome child around under her arm like a bag of potatoes, and had Bristol fake an engagement with the guy who knocked her up to look good for the Radical Christians.

I guess it's just another one of those laws that only apply to the Democratic party. The RepubliCONS certainly pick and choose what they think applies to them.

12. See, that's part of the problem
Some people were perfectly fine attacking Palin by using her kids. Politics get heated and unfortunately, dislike can turn to irrational hatred. It shouldn't really be a surprise that when people on one side act like jackasses, the other side feels they have permission to do the same.

6. At a certain point you have to stand up and FIGHT BACK..............
.............That has been a problem with liberals since the 70's. They used to fight for the things they believed in, now they're wimps. If you don't stand up to these ass holes, they will roll right over you like a certain party did in Germany in 1933.

10. Calling someone subhuman has the perverse effect
of legitimizing, or at least excusing, their actions. Subhumans aren't responsible for their behavior. Normal humans are.

9. Criminals are always talking about having "made mistakes" in their lives.
School kids sometimes solve math problems incorrectly. Those are mistakes. Sometimes a carpenter will cut a rafter to the wrong length. That is a mistake.

Criminals deliberately commit hienous acts regardless of the consequences of those acts upon others. Those are not "mistakes." They are crimes.

What this group did was not a mistake. It was a hienous and deliberate action committed against innocent victims, with no thought for the effects upon them.
