Can you feel it? Do you get that excited feeling, that tingling in your spine?
Could it be that the Democrats in Congress have faced up to their biggest enemy, (themselves) and managed to get their shit together well enough to PASS HEALTH CARE REFORM?

I never ever thought I would see this day coming. The GOP's unified defense has been awesome, to be honest. If only we had even a smidgeon of their troop control on the D side of the aisle. Not only do GOPers never break ranks, they have the identical message, drowning out facts with fiction, truth with spin. And still, for the first time in a very long, long time, the Democrats just earned that capital D in front of their label.

I think I know why this happened. HCR was dead in the water. Sinking. Without a rudder, an engine or a sail, as it approached the deadly shoals of inaction. But places like this would not let it stop. The blogs had a huge (understated, rarely reported) victory when we refused to let the US Atty scandal die. But for the liberal and progressive blogs, that would have remained a nonstory, with Ken Rove's political flunkies left to do even more damage.

With healthcare, the blogs stood up one more time. We pressured individual congressmen and senators, we called, we wrote, we faxed and we e-mailed. Without our pushing, begging, pleading, threatening, constantly demanding them to act, I seriously doubt that we would have gotten here today. Obama's performance was pathetic last year. They sat back, let Big Insurance fill the void, and spew lies. Nary a response or even a suggestion of what the final bill should have. Even they realized that they made a huge mistake. Why? Because the bloggers told the White House that. In no uncertain terms. The brutal nature of our message was such a slap to Team Obama, that Rahm was sent out to piss on our parade. Which only made us more energized and angrier.

But along the way, Obama realized that it was us who brought him to the dance, and he better quit courting the GOP skanky bitch, and return to his roots. The Netroots. His performance today at George Mason was vintage Obama, and it shows how well he got our message. Without our pushing, he would not have been so strong on message. Without his resulting efforts, our nation would not be so close to victory.

Latest tally? A serious 212, only 4 votes away.

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood . . . .

3. returned to his roots, the netroots? the same ones calling for Medicare for All or a PO
No it looks like he has embraced the Corporatocracy. He met behind closed doors with members of Big Pharma to work on a deal.

Are the "Netroots" of which you speak the same "fucking retarded" Progressives of which Rahm speaks?

4. NightWatcher, your refusal to put on rose colored
glasses and do the happy dance will be mightily flamed by those delusional enough to think the public is going to embrace this pitiful excuse for health care reform. In Nov. the same posters will be bitching and moaning on here that the ungrateful public gave the keys to Congress back to the R's - and seriously wondering why.

6. I put myself firmly in the Kucinich camp on this one.
What he said about the bill makes a lot of sense. Medicare for all? That's my preference. But, we have to face facts. Our biggest enemy was the blue dog element in our party. To get this far was unthinkable for years. It is a smaller, much smaller step than I would like, but damn it, it is a step forward.

16. so
getting a "smaller, much smaller step than I would like" makes you "tingle"? Really? Do you think Dennis gets all tingly too? I just can't see how these small steps (personally I think they are steps backwards)make everyone think "wow -we WON! Isn't this so great??!!"

8. The "reform" bill is a steaming pile, so no.
The so-called "reform" bill is basically the worst of both worlds. Oh yay.

I could get behind real, constructive reform. This is not that.

17. We won't need to wait until November to see how this is
Edited on Fri Mar-19-10 12:58 PM by LibDemAlways
going to play out. The only word on the lips of Repuke politicians between now and Nov. will be "mandate." It's powerful stuff. The public will be informed repeatedly that the Dems are picking their pockets. I wouldn't be surprised if, by fall, desperate Dems, in an attempt to save their asses, are introducing legislation to seriously retool this thing.

19. That's my take on it.. The Rs are going to seize on that word...
like flies to stink. And good gawd, the Corporate Media newsbunnies! I doubt the retooling part, however -- that would just give the Rs more ammo. We'll see.
