1. Yes, it's done...
Not sure what all the fuss has been about...

Didn't seem invasive to me, or incomprehensible either.

13. To the RW, any word with more than one syllable
would be incomprehensible.

24. Unless someone is getting it confused with the "American Community Survey"
which is also sent out by the Census, just not to everyone. I got one of those a few weeks ago and it is quite long and comprehensive.

18. Are you going to Seattle in July?
I'm getting excited. Now that a Democrat is in the WH I wonder if he will be the keynote speaker? I was a natl delegate in the 90s and Clinton spoke almost every convention. Gore spoke one year and he was awesome.

giving me phone numbers to call if I needed help with the form.

But not the form itself.

6. I got the long form in 1980
and it took a bit longer to fill out, questions about indoor plumbing and the like but certainly not an onerous job.

The short form took me a minute to tick off the appropriate boxes and it was done. It's going out today.

I do hope Bachmann's constituents are following her over the cliff by not filling it out. She'll be out of office because she'll be out of a district if that happens.

Unfortunately, I think a lot of them have probably wised up to the fact that the church lady is nuts and will fill them out and present us with a different log of GOP dead wood next term.

10. There is no long form this year.
According to Wikipedia:

"Detailed socioeconomic information collected during past censuses will continue to be collected through the American Community Survey. The survey provides data about communities in the United States on a yearly basis rather than once every 10 years."

14. I live in that district, but
sorry, I will be filling it out. I'd rather follow the law than follow Bachmann.

BTW we have a real chance of defeating her.

8. I'm Waiting For Just the Right Moment.
This opportunity only comes along once every ten years, and I mean to make the most of it. A bottle of Chablis, some dim lighting, and the pen I got for high school graduation that I only use for extra special occasions.

11. No mailed forms out here-- they'll be knocking on doors...
Well over half the houses out here are summer homes and half the people who live here have PO boxes that Census doesn't know about.

In 2000 the return rate was so low because of this that they just kind of gave up on mailing them for several towns this year.

I don't see what the fuss is about. It wasn't invasive. I've completed much longer forms in the past.

19. Daughter ripped it up and threw it in the trash.
In my house, we have a simple rule. Whoever checks the mail has to remove any obvious junkmail and dump it in the trash or recycling, as appropriate. Junk mail that looks like it may contain credit offers and such must be ripped apart first.

Our census came last Tuesday. My daughter thought it was junkmail and ripped it up. My wife found it when she opened the can a short while later.

I called the LA regional census center and asked whether we should try to tape it back together and send it in anyway, and I was told not to. Apparently they're scanned by computers, and tape all over the form kinda screws them up.

The Census person told me that they will be sending out a second Census form to non-responders in June. She suggested that I just wait until that arrives...and to keep my daughter away from the mailbox :)

20. I got mine this week, filled it out and mailed it back the next day.
It took even less time than I expected. I looked it over 3 times thinking that surely I had missed some of the questions I was supposed to answer.

28. They sent one to "Resident" at every address
Edited on Fri Mar-19-10 01:56 PM by Renew Deal
So whoever you live with might have received it. Here is the answer from the Census website:

What if I don't receive the form?If you did not receive a form, call the Telephone Questionnaire Assistance center at 1-866-872-6868. (If you prefer a Spanish-speaking operator, then dial 1-866-928-2010.) The lines will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. (your local time) seven days a week from February 25, 2010 through July 30, 2010. For the hearing-impaired, TDD 1-866-783-2010 (during the times noted above).

30. You have to ask them.
Edited on Fri Mar-19-10 02:13 PM by Renew Deal
The question is will you be there April 1? If yes, they should include you. If they added you, then you're done. If not, then you have to call to get a form.

31. Conservative extremists are against the census (too)
Edited on Sun Mar-21-10 10:52 AM by AnArmyVeteran
Have you noticed how conservative extremists are against the census? They believe it just another Obama/Socialistic/Totalitarian/ACORN plot to invade and take over their lives. A lot of them said they won't send it back. But if they don't return the census they will be giving themselves even more to complain about because they wont be counted, and thus, their representation will be even less than before. But the typical conservative extremist doesn't think that far into the future.

I suppose conservative extremists want to go back to the good old days when the first censuses asked "How many slaves do you have?"
