Poll question: Robb's theory on DU and Afghanistan
This is the companion poll to Robb's theory on DU and Iraq, which I've been correct on so far.

My theory here is support for the war in Afghanistan will not top 10% among DUers.

...And yes, as someone pointed out in the other thread, if you pay taxes you "support" it. But you know what I mean.

If you please:

1. there will be much more than 10% support here. If Obama's for it, it must be good.

24. Dude, I was not supposed to win this bet. 21% in favor,
that's so pitiful. Dont you dare change your sigline.

I guess it says a lot for the state of DU as well.

4. No, support will be low. Which only proves you've got a tiny cabal of prolific agenda-driven posters
dominating the discourse, while an apparent majority that takes DU far more casually is in complete disagreement.

9. Are you saying those who are against the conflict in Afghanistan aren't dominating the discourse?
Seems like the opposite it true, to me.

BTW this is a genuine question, not meant as flame bait.

they've thrown so many people under the bus because the Almighty Rahm sayeth so.

I remember when this place was anti war, pro union..........Now it's Party Uber Alles

14. Honestly, in months or so I've not seen/followed as much Afghanistan posting
So perhaps I'm not up to date on the "climate."

When I was reading however, it was definitely dominated by war apologists defending the policy.

I would point out however, I was following back when the future of our Afghan policy was being hotly debate, before Obama announced he was doubling down on war...

Right around that time, things looked a lot different as the board was drenched on posts defending Obama's war push.

23. I support it for two reasons.
1. I think it is really about the fact that if we left, Pakistan's nuclear weapons would be up for grabs and fall into the hands of the meanest and dirtiest of the parties that want them. That's not a pretty or idealistic reason, but it is the real reason we are there as far as I'm concerned.l

2. If the Taliban returns to power, women will never have the rights or respect they should have. We haven't managed to do much for the women in Afghanistan thus far, but if defeat the machos of whatever persuasion, and include women in our forces as we fight, then maybe we can do something for the women of Afghanistan.

2. Can't vote, I'm torn.
I did vote "against" in your Iraq poll though. I've been against that one since before it began, and still am. Afghanistan is a different story though, there are all kinds of shades of grey.

8. I feel flames coming but...

My opinion counts a whole 7 percent right now haha, I feel important.

Hate me if you want. I support the effort in Afghanistan. It's too bad it took eight years to refocus on it though.

Didn't support Iraq in the other one though.

11. This one is tricky but I voted no
I support military action in Afghanistan to the extent of trying to find and eliminate Al Queda and other terrorist organizations, in a limited way with elite squads and specialists. But I don't support the troop surge and escalation so I voted no because of that.

13. Well thought out response.
That is a very valid and concise thought process.

I pretty much agree and had the same thought process but still came down on the side of supporting it.

15. Yea, that is reasonable
It could go either way I agree, if you think the way we apparently do on the subject, with only a yes or no answer available.

Never believed it was about "Al Qaeda" when Chimpy said it, and I'm not about to start believing it because Obama is recycling Bush Crime Family talking points.

21. Suggestion for next Robb poll question
1. I support the ongoing expansion of USA military footprint in Africa and Latin America.

2. I do not support the ongoing expansion of USA military footprint in Africa and Latin America.

Caveat that I assume you share: I give DUers credit for being more informed and of better mental prowess than the average American.

27. I do not support the war in Afghanistan....
People forget that the original reason we went in was simply to go after Bin Laden....and then they tried to justify it using all sorts of reasons...to say we were there to improve women's lives is one that really gets me; living in a world where you worry about bombs being dropped on your children is not exactly an improvement! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7jAT0FAGBc ...chasing Al Qaeda, fighting the Taliban is a never ending battle; we leave, they return...Targeting bomb drops from thousands of miles away by a kid in a room with a joystick is morally reprehensible! This war must end.
