Mayo Clinic: Health care bill a 'good step forward'
Mayo Clinic officials said Friday that the organization generally supports a wide-sweeping bill that would be the largest health care overhaul since the creation of Medicare and Medicaid in 1965.

However, the clinic hedged that support by saying that while the newest health care bill is an initial step toward improvement, more reforms need to occur.

President Barack Obama and Democratic Congressional leaders are pushing for a vote this weekend and are eagerly pursuing representatives in a quest for 216 votes. According to the New York Times on Friday evening, House Democrats are about a half-dozen votes short.

While Mayo has not taken an official position in support or against the bill, several of the bill's provisions are in line with the organization's principles, said Mayo Clinic Health Care Policy Center Executive Director Jeff Korsmo.

1. Good for them.
The doctor I work for did both his internship and residency there. They turned out a kind and liberal doctor.

2. I believe they're planning to open more Mayo-like clinics...
