Has anyone listened to the ads on right wing talk radio
If you are ever listening to right wing talk radio, about 60% of the ads are either for

1. Getting rich quick (via the internet, selling gold or something else)
2. Getting out of debt

I don't know if this is a nationwide phenomena, but here in the midwest that is what our stations play.

Makes you wonder why they never question being trickled down on. Ads are designed to appeal to the audience. So the audience that listens to RW talk radio and the stories about having the best health care on earth, the most opportunity, the most wealth, etc has to be broke and/or economically desperate.

What is worse is the ads aren't even to help them in their desperation. It is usually to sell them snake oil to prey on their desperation.

I'm not saying liberals are perfect, but I hope we'd at least catch onto the absurdity of that.

1. One of the ads being run here says, "if you are sick of the poor being bailed out, dial this number"
Yes, I hear similar ads.

Indeed, as you say, it is absurd, and very depressing that people even fall for this.

2. Lilberal Talk isn't much different
in seattle, on KPRK, it's debt help, gold, and, of course, lesbian plumbers. maybe more a symptom of AM radio than RW radio.

3.  By the way, this wasn't Right Wing Talk Radio, in fact it was far, far left wing,
Ray Taliaffero out of San Francisco. If you listen on the internet you are going to hear these pathetic, placating, condescending and ignorant ads, just as you are talking about.

4. Not just RW. The ads on progressive radio in Chapel Hill NC are awful as well.
When you have to listen to Stephanie Miller, Big Ed Schultz and Thom Hartmann all using the exact same text to hawk buying gold, or the constant credit card relief ads, it is enough to just make you want to turn it off. I realize that radio costs money, but when you get what seems to be an even amount of ads and content, that's just not worth putting up with.

10. Why doesn't anyone advertise detergent, or target or something
Why is it always ads preying on desperate people instead of trying to sell them a useful service?

5. I didn't know both sides did that. That is sad
I don't get any left wing radio where I live, so I have no idea.

Either way, yeah that is sad. Because the ads are predatory no matter which side is putting them out.

6. To me, the biggest absurdity is that these ads attempt to appeal to the "middle class" by attacking
the poor instead of Wall Street.

When in the hell did the poor get "a bail out"? It was Goldman Sachs and AIG that got the bailouts, at least that is how I recall it.

9. white resentment against the poor/minorities is a huge part of conservative ideology.
Edited on Fri Mar-19-10 07:51 PM by Juche
Huge part. They don't call it the 'angry white vote' for nothing.

However if they were playing those ads on far left radio, that is just confusing.

11. Yes, exactly. Good old Ray is as left as you can get, unless maybe they
play different ads on the internet vs. actual sponsors on the radio station itself.

12. The Ruthugs are sick in the mind, and they would benefit the current HCR.
Rethugs have sound bites in attempt to frighten the public.....and they have done a good job thus far and gone away with it. B

I am glad we are doing such a good job draining and straining their sound bites.

Let us move America forward with responsible Health Care Reform. :hi:

Before and after the move to satellite.
