I'll tell you another reason why we need to pass this bill |
|
The loss of a public option is unfortunate, but the bill achieves universal coverage of all citizens. It's makes health care a right, and makes that a policy of the United States for the first time. We have been trying to do this for 100 years.
If we keep on fighting, and don't let our Democratic leaders get complacent, we can use this bill as a basis for continuing to move forward with further reforms that will lead us to a public option and eventually single payer.

No, it makes it an obligation.

3. "the bill achieves universal coverage of all citizens." |
|
And that is exactly the excuse that will now be given by the corporate fellating prostitutes of the DLC, and the subject of ACTUAL reform will never be raised again.

4. Even the POTUS will admit it's not universal. 15 - 20 million people |
|
are not going to be covered. People who can't afford it even with a subsidy won't be covered - I doubt they know how many that will be. This bill will definitely help some people, but it's far removed from what I expected from a Democratic President with a Democratic Congress. I hope it will eventually morph into single payer and be universal, but I also hope for calorie-free hot fudge sauce and that hasn't happened yet.

8. Everyone should be covered as a matter of public health. |
|
Some untreated diseases can kill more people faster than any terrorist could. Personally, I think it's a moral obligation, but some disagree.

16. Yes, that's one reason, but it is also inhumane to refuse to help |
|
the sick no matter who they are. Republicans who claim to be Christian never fail to amaze me with their anti-immigrant policies. The man whose name they invoke never asked the sick what nationality they were or whether they were 'illegal'.
It's telling that we will treat criminals, serial killers, but not immigrant children. Not that I'm advocating NOT treating criminals, it just shows the insanity and inconsistency of this country.
No other modern democracy refuses health care to the sick.

You support a bill that is discrimatory against Human Beings, including children. You support allowing them to die because they had the temerity to be 'foreign', 'brown' or whatever your reasons are.
You support a bill that is also discrimatory towards older Americans, who can now be charged higher premiums because they had the temerity to grow older.
And you support forcing Americans to buy a product from a known to be corrupt, private industry under threat of the IRS and/or jail.
And you support the transfer of public funds into the hands of the same corrupt private businesses.
I don't know any Demrat who would support such policies.
Immgrants who are sick are treated in every other civilized country in the world.
But then, this is a country that bombs and tortures 'brown people' so it's not a surprise that we would let them die.
Shame on us. I only hope this is a brief if tragic period in our history and that sanity will eventually prefail. But this bill will definitely slow that process.

7. A right for those with no preexisting conditions...a right for those |
|
who have preexisting conditions and can wait four years and/or pay through the nose (with subsidies or without) for health care. No, no sir, it's still not a right.
