Where does DU stand on the current HealthCare Reform Bill
I have been busy lately so have not had the chance to read DU.

I remember how DUers were not particularly happy and had their objections. Has that changed at all? If it has then why?

As for me, I am hoping that this bill does pass. It would be insanity to put the lives of many in jeopardy for the sake of being a purist.

1. my guess is that many against the bill aren't in here today. I think our opinions are very diverse.
and that's a good thing.

2. It's far from perfect, but it must be passed to have a base to work from.

6. I believe the majority are for passage
Been a few "polls" run in the last week. I think most of them ended up showing more support than opposing it. My memory was that at best 25% of us oppose it in them.

8. Agree, this Bill does a lot of good -
The alternative is the status quo. As some say, it's a good starting point. If this fails it will be a disaster in so many ways, not just health care, it will mean the repubs can control without having the majority.

11. As opposed to putting lives in jeopardy
for the sake of profit, which the "reform" will institutionalize.

12. If this doesn't pass, nothing will.
Our majorities are unlikely to get any larger in November, so nothing would get done on health care the rest of Obama's term. The issue would become political poison for any future administration as well. The best we could hope for would be that a couple of states pass single payer, and other states gradually (very gradually) follow suit.

Failure to pass this bill would also embolden the extremists on the right. They would see that their strategy of lies, scare tactics, bullying and intimidation succeeded, and that can't be good for the country.

That's why I'm hoping they pass this bill, flawed as it is.
