1. Those time delays look BIG to me. |
|
First, no mandates for insurers.
Second, no time delays for coverage.
Well actually, OK, we reallyreallyreally need universal single payer without insurers in the mix.

2. Not sure why the drug coverage gap won't be closed until 2020? |
|
So I will start to be taxed on my health care benefits? However at a higher threshold for women and high risk?
The Senate bill included a 40 percent excise tax on high-cost health insurance plans. The proposed changes would delay implementation of the tax until 2018 instead of 2013. The tax would kick in on plans costing $10,200 for individuals and $27,500 for family coverage. A higher threshold is allowed for plans covering mostly women, older workers and retirees as well as those in high-risk professions.
Individuals would be required to obtain health insurance. Those who fail to purchase coverage would face fines of up to 2.5 percent of income by 2016.
So to pay for access to health care run by corporate for profit insurance industry they wrote a mandate, tax, and audit plan to insure their big bonuses never end. They are doing one heck of a job.... I hope they give the tea baggers a promotion...

3. The Controls on Operating Margins are Big |
|
Looks like the bill would require 80 cents of every revenue dollar to be spent on medical care. Doesn't sound like much, but in some cases like Optimum Choice it's an improvement. My primary doctor quit accepting Optimum Choice several years ago because the kept cutting payments while having 40% operating profits. Not ideal, but it is an improvement.

I know we need change - I like some options and not others. Still think it ought to be controlled and regulated like public utilities.
