What are the odds that Obama can use signing statements to put in a public
option? Couldn't he add a statement that if we mandate insurance a public option is mandatory as well? So for part of the bill to work he would have to sign the public option in? Am I dreaming? How did Bush use signing statements? Did he severely change any rules handed to him by congress??? I know it was a big deal when he used signing statements so many times.

1. How Can It Not Be Clear To You By Now That Obama Doesn't WANT a Public Option?
That would go against the orders he received from his corporate masters.

2. What are the odds that he would want to?
He was for single payer before he was against it. He was for a strong public option before he was willing to settle for no public option.

Clearly, he wants to benefit politically from enacting healthcare reform. The effectivness of such so-called reform is considerably less important to him.

5. The Public Option will go in as another law -- probably around September
Look for Grayson to sponsor it.

As far as I'm concerned, they can improve the bill one new law at a time, and keep the GOP entangled in its own anti-PR effort for years.

7. The President Is The Chief Executive
He executes the law. He doesn't make it.

14. Yet, so many call for */cheney war crime trials. Why is that?

8. Here is a way he might do it constitutionally.
He could declare a national health emergency, and fund it through FEMA. Now, eventually FEMA would run out of money, but people would see how well it works and it could be funded by other means.

9. Would we want him to?
Bush did that kind of thing all the time. And it disgusted me that he used them to get around laws passed by Congress. (No more torturing prisoners, unless I want to...)

I wouldn't want "our side" to stoop to their level. If Obama did that, I would lose all respect for him.

11. Jeeze! Obama torpedoed the Public Option at Rahm's insistence. He doesn't want it.
Heck they are even opposed to public schools.

13. 0. He doesn't want one. The senate bill = "I'm gettting 95% of what I want".

There will be no 'fixing', no public option. This is it.
