Bush: "These are tough times. These are times that test the resolve of civilized people"

http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/news_theswamp/2007/05/bush_failure_in.html#more

<snip>

“Failure in Iraq should be unacceptable to the civilized world,’’ President Bush said today, four years after he declared major combat completed in Iraq and four months into a political fight over the continuation of the war with a Democratic-run Congress.

...

“We stand as one,’’ Bush said. “There are those who say America is engaged in this fight alone. Each of you here knows better.’’

...

“These are difficult times,’’ Bush said at Madill, a base where he has made many appearances before the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq and during a war that has entered its fifth year. “These are tough times. These are times that test the resolve of civilized people… and the ability of liberty to yield the peace we want.’’

“Thank you for standing what’s right… Thank you for working for peace,’’ the president told his allies at war. “Your work has helped to liberate millions of people… Your work has helped keep millions of people safe… I thank you for defending the security of the civilized world.’’

Since Sept. 11, 2001, the president said, terrorists have struck targets in major cities throughout the world. “These terrorists bring death to innocents all across the globe,’’ he said. “We must go on the offense, stay on the offense and take the fight to them…. Our broad coalition has saved millions of people… we have taken the fight to the enemy where they live, so we don’t have to face them where we live.’’

1. Too bad we don't act like civilized people
often times:

“These are difficult times,’’ Bush said at Madill, a base where he has made many appearances before the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq and during a war that has entered its fifth year. “These are tough times. These are times that test the resolve of civilized people… and the ability of liberty to yield the peace we want.’’

If we did, other nations might still be on our side, like they were after September 11th. . Now, if anything bad happens here, you will see other nations saying, "They asked for it."

3. Talk like this doesn't help him, because he's already failed and everyone knows it.
I don't know where they got the idea that talking up the "stakes" is good for them, because America has lost confidence in him and wouldn't want him to be in charge of something so important.

He saying "We have to succeed or we're doomed, now watch me fail some more."

4. Yeah, the Iraqi people sure have been liberated!
:eyes:

:wtf: Thank you for standing what's right..

These terrorists bring death to innocents all across the globe,

Not too mention all of the innocent Iraqis that have been slaughtered in the name of "peace" and "liberation"

As for the rest of his "speech", if not for cliches, he wouldn't be able to speak at all.

5. “There are those who say America is engaged in this fight alone. Each of you here knows better.’’
Yes, there IS an ever-lessening British presence. And those 18 troops from Greater Moldavia.

8. Thomas Paine he isn't. . .
"The Crisis" rendered into Bushspeak. We'd still be British if we'd depended on fools like George W. to lead us then. . .

11. "Your work has helped to liberate millions of people…"
Millions have been liberated all right. Millions of Iraqis are now at liberty to flee their homes and live in refugee camps in piss-poor conditions within their own country or find their way in foreign lands in order just to stay alive. And then there are the hundreds of thousands who've found the ultimate liberty in death.

George Bush**: redefining "success" every day.

12. "Civilized peope" don't make war.
War is a quarrel between two thieves too cowardly to fight their own battle; therefore they take boys from one village and another village, stick them into uniforms, equip them with guns, and let them loose like wild beasts against each other. - Thomas Carlyle

It is the job of thinking people, not to be on the side of the executioners. - Albert Camus
