Conservatives for Hillary! Check out this backwards endorsement...
Edited on Tue May-01-07 01:24 PM by RiverStone
Occasionally I wander over to Freeperville to see what goofy spin they are trying to place on Shrub's disastrous foreign policy - know thy enemy right? Understandably, there was nothing up top about the war; what can they say about being brainwashed?

Yet, there was reference to this unique OP which may offer a sneak preview of a shifting rethug mentality. That being we've already lost the White House in 08, so lets I.D. the most conservative DEM and work within the DEM machine to get her elected. Notice the usual digs at DEMS, yet the dude also acknowledges the pukes ship is sinking.

At first read, it's hard to decipher if this is good news or twisted logic gone bad? Either way, it further illustrates why many of us here do NOT support HRC in the primaries battle. The OP speaks for itself.

Case in point - a rethug throws in the towel and by default, endorses Hillary:

Conservatives for Hillary?
Bruce Bartlett
5/1/07

As each day passes, it becomes increasingly clear that the Democrats will win the White House next year. It’s not quite 1932, but it’s getting close to a sure thing. All the energy is on their side, they are raising more money from more contributors, and there is little if any enthusiasm for any of the Republican candidates—even among Republicans.

Of course, one can never rule out the ability of the Democrats to seize defeat from the jaws of victory. But sometimes the trend in one party’s direction is so strong that even the grossest incompetence can’t keep it from winning. I think 2008 is shaping up as that kind of year for the Democrats.

If I am right, conservatives are going to have to make an important decision at some point. Do they go down with the sinking Republican ship or do they try and have some meaningful influence on the next president by becoming involved in the Democratic race?

I’m sure that the first reaction of most conservatives will be to say that any involvement in the Democratic Party is unthinkable. Many view it as the party of treason and socialism. They could no more involve themselves in Democratic politics than a God-fearing Christian would consider working with Satan just because it looked like he was going to win.

1. There are so many factions on the Right
I didn't catch which faction was making the post..or if it was a clear designation.

it's almost as chaotic as it is on the Left..

On the Right:

Far Right Wing, Right Leaning, Slightly Right Leaning, Right of Center, Fundamentalists, Evangelicals, Christians, Conservatives, Moderates.

Then place moderate in front of each designation for another subset.

2. Republicans prefer Obama over Hillary Clinton
I could probably find proof they prefer Edwards if I looked long enough.

"These are some of the results of a Harris Poll of 2,401 U.S. adults surveyed online by Harris Interactive between April 3 and 16, 2007.

Among Democrats, more people say they would consider voting for Hilary Clinton (68%) than for Barack Obama (61%). However, Obama leads Clinton among Independents (by 37% to 29%) and among Republicans (by 14% to 7%). As a result very slightly more people overall would consider voting for Obama (39%) than for Clinton (37%)."

3. Oh, and this one: Republicans for Obama
http://republicansforobama.org/?q=homepage

(Don't click, you'll just get them all happy about their page count.)

"New York Republicans for Obama April Meetup

C'mon, we've all done it. We've all supported some candidate outside of the GOP at one point or another. Were you really for Pataki all three times?

If you're like me and you're not too crazy about who's going for the Republican nomination, you want to beat back Hillary before it becomes too late, or you just like Obama's common sense approach, then let's show our Obama support without having to interact with Democrats."

4. Wake up and smell the Karl Rove.

I truly believe that Hillary and Obama are being set up by the RW because they believe they are unelectable and the GOP candidate will have a better chance of winning against them. I notice that they are both getting the same PAC money campaign contributions from the same entities that are generous donors to GOP candidates. The other Democratic candidates are not getting those same PAC dollars.

If Nader makes his threat good and runs for a third party, it will further dilute the liberal vote and we might find ourselves with a President Giulani. Watch for more astroturf of this kind being spread in conservative circles leading up to the election.

If either of those Democratic candidates do win anyway, the conservatives still win because they will have those Democrats in their pockets and obligated to return the favor. We will have eight years of middle of the road, corporate favored government instead of meaningful government reform.

5. Also, why did Rupert Murdoch host a fund raiser for Hillary last year?
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/05/09/politics/main1600694.shtml

(CBS) To call them a political odd couple would be a rash understatement.

Conservative media mogul Rupert Murdoch will host a fundraiser for liberal New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, the Financial Times reports.

The mating ritual of the unlikely allies has been under way for months. Clinton set political tongues to wagging last month by attending a Washington party celebrating the 10th anniversary of Fox News, the cable news channel owned by Murdoch. more...

6. That is no more than Murdock hedging his bet..
Obama's mentor is Dick Luger and that bothers me a whole lot, him taking fatherly advise and steerage of his career from a untrustable, connected, inner-circle, Republican. If anyone is capable of being a Republican Trojan Horse, it's Obama.
