5. I'm clutching onto Grayson & some angel to put back the GLBT provisions...
..and counting on the "high risk pool" for pre-existing conditions to be somewhat affordable for our brothers and sisters who need it.

But the racist, homophobe, obstructionist, violent Teabaggers tipped me over.

2. Me too
If I could only afford it, I'd be totally happy to support it all the way, as it is, I support it with trepidation that I might be in bankruptcy out of it, but it sure sweetens the mix to know that this pisses these people off so much. It's almost worth it just for that alone.

25. Remember, a stitch in time saves nine. I want single payer or at
least a public option. But this bill will help people, and you may be one of them.

For example, if high blood pressure is discovered early, an inexpensive medication can prevent strokes and cognitive damage as well as other bad effects. So, by going to a doctor and getting a simple medication, you may actually be saved from bankruptcy and worse.

A stroke in your 50s could really ruin your quality of life and your ability to work or even manage what money you have left.

The bill does not do nearly enough to deal with costs or the problem that for-profit health care is just wrong, but if this bill is passed, we will be able to persuade Congress to deal with the costs and the for-profit problem in future bills.

27. I would be dead now if I hadn't had insurance years ago to get my BP
under control. Now older. decades older, I have no effect to my body from years ot keeping it under control with cheap genetic medication. I count myself among the lucky and I want people to be able to be there with me. This wasn't the bill I wanted, but if it will help some people I'm 1,000% + for it.

33. ummm I have a doctor and I have BP meds as well as Diabetes meds
$25 for each doctor visit, $35 a month for the meds, no insurance. I don't need another large bill to buy glass buildings and limos for insurance company executives in addition to these costs.

never have any serious medical problems. Good luck, and I hope you do OK. I had unexpected serious surgery this past year, not BP related, and it ran into 10's of thousands of dollars for two operations. Completely unexpected and no prior history. Sometimes sh** just happens IMO.

6. I have been arguing all along
that this is not an insurance give-away. If it were, Murdoch, Ailes, Joe Scarborough, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and the insurance companies would not be so against it. Plus the insurance company would not have given millions and millions to groups to campaign against it.

12. this is not an insurance give-away
(Reuters) - Healthcare investors see little in a modified U.S. reform bill expected to pass this weekend that will hurt the sector or cause them to lose sleep -- at least for now.

"The cloud has lifted," said Gabe Hoffman, who manages $140 million in healthcare assets for hedge fund Accipter Capital Management. "People finally know that nothing bad is going to happen."

"I think the new features that come in the reconciliation bill in some instances are more positive for the sector than the Senate bill," said Dan Hunt, who helps manage $135 million in assets for the RCM Wellness Fund.

"As it stands right now there are very few mechanisms in the bill that control the costs of healthcare goods and services."

Health insurance company stocks rallied on Friday. Aetna rose 3.7 percent and Cigna Corp (CI.N) gained 3.5 percent. UnitedHealth Group Inc (UNH.N) rose 2.4 percent and Wellpoint Inc (WLP.N) rose 2 percent.

"There is nothing in the bill regarding price negotiation for drugs or reimportation of drugs," said Robert Hodgson, who manages a combined $850 million in the Blackrock Healthcare Fund and BGF World Health Science Fund. "I've actually upped my weighting in pharma for valuation reasons and they should also benefit from unit volume increases."

29. This link discusses investors, not the insurance companies
themselves

The reason the insurance companies are against the bill is that the Repubs are right that it opens the door for the government to get involved.

As an aside, a friend of mine called yesterday all upset because her Repub friend made exactly that argument.

If the bill fails, the door will close and more reforms won't happen.

If the bill passes, the door opens and more reform is possible.

22. They were against it because it was Obama.. Period.
It had nothing to do with anything else. And it gives more to the insurance companies than it does to the people who need help. The whole reason people are "holding their noses" is because this bill is AWFUL. It does a tiny portion of what it needed to to REFORM heal care.

I thought people here claimed the teabaggers didn't know what they were talking about and were just protesting because of Obama's race.

24. Plus, The Drooling Media Coverage Of Their Little Klan Rallies
I'm not kidding you, last night's local news coverage led off with a story about the "Tea Party Protest" on Ohio's Statehouse steps. The story and the ensuing coverage consumed the entire first 10 minutes of a 30-minute news broadcast. And here's the best part. The reporter started the story by making an introductory statement about the "hundreds of Tea Party protestors" that gathered on the Statehouse steps to urge Ohio lawmakers to "Kill the Bill." Then they showed the video. There were MAYBE 15 or 20 people there (I actually tried to count, but the "crowd shot" was so quick that by the time I got done laughing, it was over). I know this goes without saying, but the local news channel reporting "hundreds" of protestors was a Fox station.

I won't allow myself to be played off kooks and bloodthirsty murderers. My enemy's enemy is not my friend. The health insurance industry isn't my friend no matter how many teabaggers purport to despise them.

They will disappear back into their cracks now and reappear when it's time to "reform" social security.

Did Harry and Louise teach you nothing? I am sure the tea party operation was a lot cheaper than actually buying ads, I'd like to see the numbers on it.
