I just saw what the penalty for no insurance is. $95 in 2012 rising in 2014 to $695, never to exceed 2.5% of your income.
With totally subsidized coverage for those under 133% of poverty level and premiums not to exceed 8% of income or something to that effect.
I'm starting to feel less sick to my stomach. I really hope this is true. I cannot -- CANNOT -- afford insurance at this time. I never really want it, don't use it, expect to die if I ever get seriously ill and won't fight it any longer than to find my furfamily homes.

1. If you cannot afford it then you probably will get a subsidy |
|
If you don't get a subsidy you probably could get a waiver.
But your right they have reduced and delayed the 'evil' mandate.

2. Sure, he can get a subsidy, like I will |
|
The remainder, for me, will be $1200 a year. I need to get another job or something.

5. If you get another job it'll raise your income and lower your subsidy |
|
which will force you to come more out of pocket. (At which time you might need a third job who knows.)

6. I'm painfully aware that my options go from fines to the workhouse |
|
That's the only thing that I'm against in this bill - the mandates for payments from poor folk like me - not the poorest, they'll get a bonus, not the richest, they'll easily be able to afford it, but for people like me on the lowest level of economic sustainability, the mandates are a tipping point. My fines will go unpaid. Let them come and jail me.

10. I am in a simliar situation |
|
However if I had this bill 10 years ago I wouldn't have lost my house and everything I own to a relatively minor health problem
Not perfect but it does do a lot.
I may have to take a wavier but for many it will help.

If you are of meager means, but can only get the more expensive coverage, there are loop holes that prevent you from having to pay the fine. Of course, you still won't have insurance, or any right to health care, but you won't have to pay the fine.

If you refuse to buy insurnace and are subsequently fined, there are no criminal or civil penalties for failure to pay the fine. Page 336 of the bill (PDF link below). http://democrats.senate.gov/reform/patient-protection-affordable-care-act-as-passed.pdf

I will enjoy seeing them fined.

9. 8% of my income for insurance that pays 70% of my bills. Sounds like a con. |
|
Yeah, the real sticks won't come into play until 2014. You know, after election time.
