of the political pushpull that has to go into getting anything across the finish line. I want to think he approves.

For the love of God, but was there one person more opposed to the NHIPA than Teddy?

18. I think thats all he said she said guesswork. What I KNOW...
is that he fought against subsidized and mandated private health insurance when it first reeled its head nationally.

Now we can cherry pick pretty quotes of wives or make shit up aabout angels in heaven, or we can remember a little history.

20. pathetic. Cherry pick? hardly.
and we KNOW that Teddy supported this legislation- flawed as it is. He made that utterly clear himself before his death.

Stop using him in this dishonest way. It's revolting.

23. Its talking for a dead man that is dishonest and revolting
I will remember him as he expressed himself through his legislative career, objectively. And in doing so, I know that he destroyed a bill just like this by the Republicans. That is a fact, and everything in between is just feel good circley jerkily bullshit.

32. Stop Pretending Politicians Don't Often Say Things They Don't Believe
First and foremost, Kennedy was a politician. Given his public history on health care issues, it's clear he would not be happy with this legislation, even if he said he was. You know, like Obama said he was for single payer, and then for the public option, and then for neither of those things?

14. Just have Newt explain it to them:
"The reality of an individual mandate (when coupled with subsidies so that insurance is affordable and market reforms so that coverage is accessible), is that it would not only address the "free rider" problem, but also serve as a tool to enhance insurance market competition. When combined with market reforms and subsidies, the mandate would help move insurers away from a business model that relies on marketing and underwriting and towards a strategy that involves competing for customers based on performance and price. This is a good thing...and something those in favor of market competition could get behind."

39. No, he supported single payer or at minium a robust public option
the current bill is, by Obama's own admission, very close to what Gingrich supported when Clinton attempted to pass a real HCR bill. Teddy opposed it then and he would have opposed it now.

44. Congressman Kennedy Didn't Spend a Lifetime Working for Universal Health Care
Neither he, nor I, speak for Senator Kennedy. Senator Kennedy's career speaks for Senator Kennedy. And his career indicates that he would hate this fiasco of a travesty of so-called "reform".
