8. I know, but it is a start
Rome wasn't built in a day. This will be popular with Americans, and we can build on this. This is the first time anything like this has been passed. We have to be patient.

If we do nothing, there are still 45 million Americans uninsured. That is not acceptable in a moral country.

Perfect? No.

The best we could have hoped for? No.

But it is a start, a place to work from.

18. Nope, it sure doesn't, the very opposite as a matter of fact.
Health INSURANCE and health COVERAGE is NOT and DOES NOT GUARANTEE needed health CARE. Period. Health INSURANCE and health CARE are two totally different things. And health INSURANCE and this corporate giveaway bill, does nothing to prevent financial ruin due to illnesses, denials of needed care, medical bankruptcies, etc.

Entrenching the for-profit profit-before-people insurance industry that only makes profits by denying care any way they can is the absolute WRONG way to go.

I don't want health INSURANCE reform. I want health CARE reform. A huge difference.

19. Yeah, lets stay stagnant.
Trying is too hard.

Even though the votes were never there for Single Payer, or a Public Option, lets pretend they were and complain we didn't get what was never attainable anyway.

20. There was never enough effort to get the public option
Edited on Sun Mar-21-10 07:55 PM by mvd
And there STILL hasn't been a vote on it, so who knows how many votes it has. A PO is something that is necessary to any final reform, IMO.

22. I'd rather support Grayson in his separate effort for the Medicare buy-in bill.
Seeing how difficult even this most basic of reforms has been, approaching this from a different angle just might work.

21. Yea, but people prefer some short term gains and ignore the long term harms and losses.
Right now its political victory, it makes insurance easier to get for a bunch of people - who gives a shit if in the long run it takes those benefits away as premiums and cost of care continue to exponentially rise, causing more families to hit out of pock caps and face premiums - even after subsidy - beyond what they can afford.

Years from now, we'll be right back where we started with the same health care crisis.

But fuck that, because today its PARTY!! woo hoo! Rah rah rah! Democrats "win." Republicans "lose!"
