The only logical Democratic response to Bush's little stunt tonight
Let me tell you what Dipshit is going to do:

He is going to go into a room that has about five hundred people in it. There are going to be people dressed up in military uniforms. There will be women in beautiful dresses. Men in handsome suits. Children in their Sunday Best. (Note I did NOT say there would be actual soldiers. Shrub knows better: if Bush went in there and started blathering about how we were winning the "war in Iraq" in front of people who've actually BEEN in the war in Iraq, one or more of them would beat the living shit out of him for the home audience.) He is going to veto the legislation then talk about how the Democrats are failing to support the troops.

The only logical Democratic response is to go into a room that contains wounded Genuine US Soldiers, read off death figures and casualty statistics, then inform Shrub that he's going to get the exact same bill back over and over again until he signs it. Further, inform him that if he attempts to finance his war by diverting funds from other programs, they'll impeach him for misappropriation of Government funds and they've got the votes in the Senate to back it up.

1. That would be beautiful. If Bush is going to stage a photo op, so should

the Dems.

Or, the Dems could show images of children who will grow up without their parent(s) because of the war in Iraq.

I do also hope the Dems tell Bush that no further funding bills for Iraq are forthcoming. And by vetoeing the bill, he has himself set a timeline for the troops to come home. When the money runs out, they will have to be redeployed and return home.

Maybe that's what the Dems planned to do all along...

2. OMFG -- I thought he was going to speak from the Oval Office or
something similar. This is a FUCKING PHOTO OP ... with his favorite props, the soldiers. I agree with you -- if he's going to cram the cleaned-up "Hollywood" version of this bloody war down our collective throats, then we've GOT to do everything to make the public aware of the REALITY of this conflict. Fight propaganda with truth.

6. Probably not, which is why he's gotten away with so much.
I really wish AAR would branch out into having a news department so that they could air these rebuttals. It would be better than nothing,

4. I would like to see that, but even this Congress
is a little whimpy about confronting the emperor as they should.

8. don't forget the families! Pack the room with military families
they've got a vested interest in ending the occupation and bringing our people home.

9. I think the dems should use noone as a backdrop,
I just always hate it when Bush does that, mission accomplished, plastic turkey or whatever, I just think they should rise above and do a plain blackdrop statement about how his using the military like this has gotten old.

10. CNN reported that he would veto the bill behind closed doors a short while ago.
He'd evidently rather not veto the bill in front of the troops he so often uses as backdrops to promote his failed occupation in Iraq.

11. A 'march on Washinton' of the Bonus Army of '32 variety will be the ONLY WAY

outta this mess if things don't change soon. The attack on the Bonus Army vets of WWI was the single most important event after the Stock Market crash that swept FDR into the White House. Hoover also didn't want shooting, but the Army under MacArthur made sure that it happened.

America's Tienanmen Square, if you will.

An assemblage of vets of the Iraq War, if they aren't in rotation already, would do the trick. This may be another reason why extended tours of duty are being called necessary.
