NY Times: In Health Reform, Boons for Hospitals and Drug Makers
In Health Reform, Boons for Hospitals and Drug Makers
By REED ABELSON

Published: March 21, 2010

With a sweeping overhaul of the nation’s health care system, Congress would be giving the health care industry as many as 32 million additional paying customers in the next few years.

That would mean millions more Americans buying private health insurance and better able to pay for their hospital stays, doctors’ visits, prescription drugs and medical devices.

And some analysts said as the vote neared that the final legislation was shaping up as much kinder to the industry than many initially feared. Hospitals and drug makers, which supported the final legislation, would be clear beneficiaries, analysts say, even if the outlook for insurers was less certain.

Yet the bill would not create the thing that insurers feared most: a government-run public option, a health plan that would compete with the private insurers. ..........(more)

6. Do you have a pre- existing illness?
If you don't I suggest you shut up. But I forgot, doesn't matter what us sick people want! Its our fault and we should just accept the status quo right? I'm so tired of DU forgetting people that this will help! But it's not "progressive" to admit some people need this and will benefit. I swear I can't tell the left from the right anymore. Both sides don't give a fuck about me..:banghead:

4. Quelle coincidence! It didn't "create the thing that insurers feared most..."
And it didn't create it when we had a president who claimed he was for single payer (OK, he made the claim to get elected, so it doesn't really count, but still...). Simply amazing. Interesting how the will of the people works these days.

5. The boon is not to the health CARE industry
it is to the health INSURANCE industry.

In fact, as more of us get stuck with lousy plans that have high out of pockets (a situation that this scam will not change), those who provide care may see fewer "customers" coming in. The other irony being that those who actually provide a service may see their incomes hurt while the insurance companies - who serve no purpose - will continue seeing the money roll in.
