Nancy Pelosi's concession to the demand of impeachment proves we should never accept the word NO |
|
Seems to me this is a great example for us to keep in mind when those in power are telling us to 'fuggetaboutit'.
Even when we are bombarded with hearing something will never happen, and it's impossible and the Media Industrial Complex is trumpeting this message, when its not in our best interest to accept what they are saying, we should not accept it.
We shouldn't ever bow to those who are telling us to accept what we see as being unacceptable. Especially when many in power are telling us to "get over it".
Individuals like Cindy Sheehan and a host others are wonderful teachers in this regard.
Even when the "majority" seems to be blindly following the crowd, and even if the crowd seem to resemble lemmings headed for the cliff,
That doesn't mean we should follow them because it looks like "everyones doing it so it must be the right thing to do".
Just a consideration I came to after reading this news of Pelosi's change in her impeachment tune.
It shows the efforts of many Americans is finally waking those in Washington up......hopefully.

Where did you find out about this? I missed it, and would love to see it. It would make me feel a lot better about the Dems in Congress.

27. I agree 100%, she has done an incredible job, and I haven't |
|
seen any gaffe's yet, nor do I expect to.
There will be some rough parts in the road, but she has done a truly remarkable job in a very short period of time. When one compares that with the previous "leadership" of the GOP House, and the "do nothing" congress, she has done extremely well.
As time goes by, she will only get better at cornering this administration, fueled by the knowledge that this is the worst administration this nation has ever seen....:)

30. Hi, rasputin1952. I think that's right. Pelosi strikes me as having always |
|
gained momentum and ability. It's only going to become more refined and sharp as she gathers steam in the House.
And there is a good chance that we will send her more Democrats in 2008, too.

they should hold power well into the future. The GOP is toast, it is no longer the Republican Party, it is the neo-con party, and they have destroyed the GOP. I wonder what Eisenhower would think of this party? I know what Goldwater said before he died, he said this wasn't the Republican Party, it was a trainwreck.
bush and his croneis have set up the D's for a generation, and if Congress starts dealing w/domestic situations, we could have a century of D power...:D

I did, takes five minutes
And I am not sure it is made.... it depends on whether the floodgates opened or not (and whether they have the ducks in the damn row)
but if in the end they do nothing over this... they will loose the Ameircan people and RIGHTLY so...
(and my prediction is that we will see the rise of two new parties at that point, one to replace the dems and one to repace the pugs... and that is the rossy scenario)

11. Respectfully disagree. Democratic registration and voter-identification |
|
is way up even from 06, and Pelosi is the strongest Speaker we've had in years. Gephardt? Foley? Neither had it together the way she does, and neither had the charisma and capability she has.
The Democratic Party is the strongest it's been in many, many years.

in fact I am all for investigating them and I know they are following the same script they did follow in 1972-3
But if in the end the perception is that nothing happened, mark my words, the cynicims will grow as well as the distrust for both parties
Hey one already lost it, to the point they are distancing themselves from the brand Republican... in fact that party might, just might be doomed, but I don't count on that either

16. Actually, I believe you are right about the Republicans. They are the |
|
ones seen to be spinelessly backing Bush on Iraq.
Pelosi and Reid have put bills on the president's desk to end the war. It's McConnell and that bunch -- and JOE LIEBERMAN -- who are still pimping for unended occupation.

23. On the Libertarians -- I hear you. I recall the John Anderson campaign |
|
in 1980. He got quite a lot of libertarian votes. At that point people were definitely not ALL persuaded that Reagan was the Great Savior, although disappointment with the Carter administration ran deep, especially among the Kennedy wing of the party. Ted Kennedy's challenge to Carter didn't take the strong hold I thought it would, but believe me, it wasn't for lack of effort in my district.
"If Ted Kennedy runs," Carter said before the primaries, "I'll kick his ass."
Anderson was too much of a Republican-Libertarian for me, but he siphoned off a couple Democrats in our group. I don't begrudge them their decision, but it reinforces the point you make about Republicans now considering themselves "Libertarians."
It's going to be a wild primary season coming up.

15. I don't believe Speaker Pelosi has changed her mind about impeachment |
|
Edited on Tue May-01-07 03:51 PM by sfexpat2000
but then, I don't believe I ever have known what her thinking was. Nancy Pelosi is a consummate politician and imho, we're so very lucky she is Speaker right now.
And, I will do everything in my power to forward impeachment. My job isn't to be her fan, my position is as one of her constituents.
We demand impeachment. And we will continue to do that. Nancy's district is exploding. This isn't an act of aggression against her; this is the logical consequence of living under the illegitimate Bush regime for the last six years.
We can do no less in good conscience.

18. Nancy Pelosi hears from you on this, from me on this, and from all her |
|
constituents, and my guess is that Mr. Bush's removal is a justified notion in those communiques.
No argument there, sfexpat.
But in 14 weeks she and Reid have done some remarkable work. I'm edgy around people who consider their efforts pointless or misdirected.
We just bashed the castle door down. But the fortress is not yet under out control.
It will be.

20. I understand. My small personal worry is |

this country has moved so very far to the right, we need to find a way to anchor the left, if it can be expressed in such terms.
I put my money on Nancy AND continue to give her feedback. Don't know if that makes sense.

Pelosi said something that hinted at impeachment being on the nightstand, at least, if not on the coffee table with the big picture book about American history (signing of the Declaration of Independence, Constitutional Convention of 1775, etc.)??

19. Maybe she WANTS to get lots of pro-impeachment letters |
|
It would look terrible if she were out in front on this. (We can say "Pelosi for President 2007" but she can't even get close to hinting at it.) But with many, many expressions in favor of impeachment from the citizens, and solid, well-publicized evidence brought out in the ongoing hearings, THEN it's time to move forward. :patriot:

The worst thing the Dems could do is attempt to impeach and fail to nail the fucker in the Senate. We have to make damn sure we have Bush nailed to a wall AND his own party is bailing out on him before we can finish him off.
