Crooks and Liars: 10 Immediate Benefits of HCR
Edited on Sun Mar-21-10 11:53 PM by Bolo Boffin
All we need is Barack Obama's signature for this:

http://crooksandliars.com/karoli/what-you-get-when-hcr-passes

Adult children may remain as dependents on their parents’ policy until their 27th birthday
Children under age 19 may not be excluded for pre-existing conditions
No more lifetime or annual caps on coverage
Free preventative care for all
Adults with pre-existing conditions may buy into a national high-risk pool until the exchanges come online. While these will not be cheap, they’re still better than total exclusion and get some benefit from a wider pool of insureds.
Small businesses will be entitled to a tax credit for 2009 and 2010, which could be as much as 50% of what they pay for employees’ health insurance.
The “donut hole” closes for Medicare patients, making prescription medications more affordable for seniors.
Requirement that all insurers must post their balance sheets on the Internet and fully disclose administrative costs, executive compensation packages, and benefit payments.
Authorizes early funding of community health centers in all 50 states (Bernie Sanders’ amendment). Community health centers provide primary, dental and vision services to people in the community, based on a sliding scale for payment according to ability to pay

Well, that looks like nine to me...

ETA: This of course is excellent news for the Republicans.

4. All of them seem like common sense
It's amazing it took over a year of wrangling to get even the most basic things to start right away. Kind of sad actually.

5. And, of course, the biggest boon of all: the new revenue stream for insurance companies
now that they're been deemed quasi federal agencies.

What a cluster f**k.

Sure the old girl is still kickin', but according to Michelle Bachman, I could throw her in the ground early once this passed!

Free Preventive Care for All
Free Preventive Care for All

That was a really big one for me. To read those five words is so fantastic. That alone will save countless lives.

8. Community health centers
When I heard Bernie talking about this aspect of the bill, I thought to myself that this sounds like the beginning of national single-payer and/or national health service. Since they charge on a sliding scale, it would seem to be an excellent alternative for those who are forced into the uber-gouging "individual plan" market because they're self-employed, unemployed, or otherwise have no employer-provided health insurance. It would also be the place to go for those without any insurance at all.

11. Hooray for getting some help for my 94 year grandma's perscription meds.
She'd get sick and die without them and they cost $450 per month. I cannot afford that.

12. Hmm. Expensive second tier health insurance that probably wont' cover the condition
that caused you to be uninsurable in the first place.

That's some favor. What's the point of having health insurance if you can't afford to use it?

15. "While these will not be cheap..." Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Hahahahahahahahaha

I have to laugh, otherwise I'd...

When something is "not cheap" it usually means those who need it cannot afford it

...and so...

Let's punish and hope they're stupid enough to support us anyway.

That right there wipes out the "kids up to 26 are covered (!!!!)" for so very many hard working people born with bad genes.

Yay us!

That makes 10.

Just a guess. :)
