Why Do We Not Know Who Yelled 'Baby Killer' Yet?

Does the person who yelled it not want to own their belief? Do they not have the courage of their conviction? Are "law and order" Republicans protecting someone against the effect of possible impact of House decorum rules?

3. Interesting how easy it was to hurt and humiliate Stupak, but

how hard it is to own up to it.

No matter what has transpired in the past, it took courage for Stupak to stand up before his colleagues, his constituents, the world, and defend his vote today. His nerves were rattled and his emotions were screaming loud and clear. For the other side to unnecessarily capitalize on it is reprehensible. Pox to that person.

But quite a few of the repugs have been out of control for quite some time, and they surely showed their ass today.

ep. John Campbell (R-Calif.) acknowledged late Sunday night that a Republican yelled "baby killer" as Democratic Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) urged his fellow Democrats to vote down a Republican amendment on abortion services in the health-care legislation.snip

Campbell, initially suspected as the lawmaker who shouted the phrase, told reporters that he didn't say it and believed that it came from a member sitting a row behind him, where the Texas Republicans usually sit. Campbell said he heard "a Southern accent".

"The people who know won't give it up," Campbell told reporters. He said the remark was "clear as a bell."

Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) said he heard the remark and said it did come from in the area of where the Texas and California delegations sit. He said he believes he knows who yelled it, but declined to say anymore.

"I can make a guess," Barton said.

Rep. David Obey (D-Wisc.), who was presiding over the floor when the anonymous Republican member made the outburst, told reporters he knows who the offending lawmaker is but won't name names.

"Members have a right to make an idiot of themselves once without being exposed," he said.
