Mormon Church And Boy Scouts Sued In Massive Molestation Cover Up
My Mormon neighbor keeps inviting my son to come join the scouts with her son at their church. I think we'll pass on that offer...

The LDS Church and national Boy Scouts organization have been sued by a man claiming that both covered up evidence of his molestation. The case has uncovered extensive files kept by both groups cloaking sexual predators.

The Boy Scouts of America has long kept an extensive archive of secret documents that chronicle the sexual abuse of young boys by Scout leaders over the years. The "perversion files," a nickname the Boy Scouts are said to have used for the documents, have rarely been seen by the public, but that could all change in the coming weeks in an Oregon courtroom. The lawyer for a man who was molested in the 1980s by a Scout leader has obtained about 1,000 Boy Scouts sex files and is expected to release some of them at a trial that began Wednesday. The lawyer says the files show how the Boy Scouts have covered up abuse for decades.

Membership in the Boy Scouts is strongly encouraged by the LDS Church and they are accused of having collaborated in the cover-up.

25. Welcome to DU, Mojeoux
:hi:

Freeper, according to the Urban Dictionary: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=FReeper

1. Freeper 1289 up, 441 down

So-called, because it is the nickname of the denizens of the ultra-right wing Web site FreeRepublic.com. Similar to "ditto-head."

Also spelled FReeper
Bill thinks that anyone who opposes President Bush should be thrown in jail. He's a total Freeper.

It goes on and on from there.

10. The sad thing is that the Boy Scouts were once a noble institution.
I was a Boy Scout for about 6 months, but never really got into the outdoors camping thing.

I did earn a Radio merit badge when I converted a small radio to be able to run off some solar panels, to help preserve battery usage. That one thing might have also qualified for a few others as well, but I was more satisfied with the solar powered radio anyway than the merit badges.

:D

12. Well, there was always a mixed thing about the Scouts
The idea of scouting was pushed originally by people like Teddy Roosevelt because he felt it would get young people used to uniforms and military discipline from an early age. Baden-Powell was down with this, and overruled the objections of Ernest Thompson Seton, who wanted a non-militaristic scouting experience.

My comment was directed at the pomposity and self-righteousness of the organizations involved.

18. Evangelical Roots of Boys Scouts
The Boys Scouts movement was begun by Lord Baden Powell with the goal of fostering "muscular Christianity"--preparing
young men to become the leaders of England's flung empire. Religion, totalitarianism and imperialism . . .what do you know!

we were taught Powell started scouting because he was appaled at the lack of ability to survive off of the land by british soldiers during the Boer war.
