Miss Teen USA South Carolina – Famous Historical Figures and Such
Miss Teen South Carolina Caitlin Upton, who when asked “Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can’t locate the U.S. on a world map. Why do you think this is?” famously answered:

“I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some people out there in our nation don’t have maps and, uh, I believe that our, uh, education like such as in South Africa and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and, I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, or, uh, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future, for our children”

Seems Caitlin is at it again. (Oh, I’m sorry – She’s going by “Caite” in The Amazing Race. It’s her disguise. It’s like Clark Kent with the glasses. TOTALLY unrecognizable…)

Last night on The Amazing Race, while looking for a statue of Joan of Arc, Caitlin said:

“Joan of Arc is guy”

When told by her rocket scientist boyfriend Brent Horne that “Joan of Ark is a girl – Why do you think she is named Joan?” Caitlin mumbled “Ok, I was thinking of someone else.”

The other guy on the show thought "he was the guy with the animals''

This took place in France....... Americans on parade.

14. Give her a dead microphone and a fake camera ...
chances are, she wouldn't know that she's not broadcasting to anybody ... she wouldn't be able to tell the difference ...

4. Is this a great country or what?
...and I'm not talking about "the Iraq"...

Funny thing is, most (bright) men I knew when I was younger would have overlooked her idiocy, and been happy to be seen with her for...about 5 dates, and then they'd have lost interest.

Not sure what would happen today...

9. I know...
when I was in college, there was this gal who was an underwear model and I 'dated' her for a few weeks...not only was she too skinny (didn't look it in the [pics), dyed long blond hair, and goofy beyond human comprehension, but when it all came down to it, even the, ahem, 'relationship', wasn't all that good. Gone With The Wind...took up with a zaftig readhead who was brilliant, and had a great time until graduation.

5. It's astonishing Miss SC is still in the race . . . such as.
Although, I have to admit, she doesn't look quite so dim next to some of the other contestants.

6. I thought this might be a chance for her to prove herself.
After all, nobody could really be as witless and dumb as Upton appeared to be in her famous "maps" speech. Sadly, although she has had her moments on the Race, overall she is just demonstrating that, yes, she is that witless and dumb.

10. Please give her some credit.
In a state that runs the gamut of 'leaders' from Joe Wilson to Mark Sanford, she at least has no pretense. She may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but she doesn't pretend to be. She has even had the grace to make fun of herself.

For all of her lack of learning, she seems to be a kind person. That's enough for me.

20. A kind person doesn't get sullen and angry 'cause she doesn't get her way
A kind person doesn't insist that they then leave what they are doing to go somewhere else.

A kind person doesn't call her boyfriend an idiot in front of millions of people and then, when he does things her way, say "I love you".

You've got to be kidding.

22. The thing that makes her so like Palin is that it's so painfully obvious that both are stupid
as rocks, and both were very carefully coached by people who probably lacked all confidence that they would remember even the simple things they'd been told to fall back on in a pinch, and it's so frighteningly obvious in what they said.

Caitlin was no doubt told something like this:

"Now look, they're going to ask you to answer some question about some great problem in the world or the country and what you would do about it. I know you have no idea what to say, so here's what you do:

--Repeat the words 'USA' and 'America' and 'Americans' as much as possible, because it will at least make you sound patriotic.

--Express sympathy for people who don't have much. Their not having much is probably part of the problem.

--It is never controversial or bad to propose better education as a solution to a problem. You don't have to specify what type--that could actually be controversial--just say that better education is part of the solution.

--Years ago, pageant contestants used to be asked questions like, how do you think the US should handle its relationship with South Africa. But today, you're more likely to be asked how the US should handle its relationship with Iraq.

--It is never controversial to say that the US should 'help' other countries in a crisis--say there's an earthquake in an Asian country or something--we should always provide humanitarian aid.

--Whatever they ask you, you should try to close with something about how you think we should build for the future, and don't forget, specifically for the future in which our children will have to live. You can't go wrong talking about the importance of building a better future for our children.

"Without knowhing what specific question they'll ask you, this is the best we can do. Now, go get 'em, Tiger!"

So she got asked that question about what to do about American kids who can't locate countries on a map, and stood there like Cindy Brady mesmerized by the red camera light on the quiz show, and all she could think of was "Well, they told me something about...

--Say 'US' and 'USA' and 'America' and 'Americans' a lot
--Express sympathy toward poor people because them being without something is part of the problem
--Say something positive about education
--Throw something in there about...South Africa, Iraq and...the Asian countries, I guess...
--Say Americans should 'help'
--End with something about building up the future for our children

OK, I guess I can do this..."

23. I personally liked the one brother who asked the other brother
So, how do you make champagne - is it like wine that you pour club soda in? Last week with the World War I re-enactment was about as bad. One of the blonde women asked her teammate if World War I was when we fought the Nazis.
