2. Which is weird, because this was essentially THEIR bill |
|
They hammered Congress and vowed they wouldn't vote for the bill unless all these compromises were made, and they didn't vote for it, anyway.
President Obama should be eating some serious crow this morning over his stubborn quest for bipartisanship.

... If not one GOP voted for it, why did they waste so much breath trying to change it over the last - God, however long it's been!

4. Bipartisanship is for Democrats, silly. |
|
At least that's what I get from the media...they never expect Republicans to help Democrats, but always hammer Democrats for not helping Republicans.

11. I hope and pray every single day |

that this comes back to them. But the MSM won't let them be the fall guys they are praising them to the hilt. If Obama and the Democrats had a lick of sense they would see this. They would put the Fairness Doctrine into effect as soon as possible. It would definetly cut down on rush's and Fox LIES. As long as they tell the truth they should have no problem. So why is the right so set against the Fairness Doctrine. I will tell you it will make them tell the truth or they will be fined and their license revoked. And it couldn't happen to more better people.

13. So WHY did we re-write this POS bill to suit THEM? |
|
I will support this bill IF, in reconciliation they
1) Restore a STRONG public option;
2) Write in that the government subsidies will go ONLY to not-for-profit or government public option policies. There is NO reason for the government to be picking up the tab for private insurance profits.

17. It's sad...to be honest, I don't see why they wouldn't vote for this. |
|
It's not like there's a public option in it. Wouldn't they like big insurance companies to make more money?

19. It's a win - win for them |
|
Yes, big insurance will make more money between the premiums we're "mandated" to pay and the billions of tax dollars that will be sent to them for the premiums subsidies. But it won't be the Republicans fault.
When the public figures out how badly they were scammed with this bill the Republicans will remind them that not one of them supported it (never mind they didn't have any ideas to fix the system, that will be forgotten).
If the Republicans had pushed a bill like this there would have been major backlash against it (especially on sites like DU). It just proves that there are times when the working and middle classes are being set up to be screwed, only the Democrats can get by with it. Next up on the Corporadems hit list? Social Security & Medicare "reform". :scared:

18. It's politics, that's all. |
|
Once they realized there were enough votes to pass it, there was no need for them to jump on board. It would have been political suicide to do so.
They were actually representing their constituents. That doesn't always happen.

Said it would not work. 1993. Not one vote.
The No Applications Being Taken Signs came down within weeks.
