1. It didn't go down the toilet - that money paid for jobs for a lot of us
The more ads there are, the more work there is for people in the tv biz.

Or whoever's drain it was you bought that coffee from. Come to think of it, I think I'll go toss some money at Nescafe because that's all I can afford myself.

Let them flog their dead horse on TV. I'll be happy to take their money. After all, the HIR law is probably going to push me into bankruptcy anyway, so I could use some more cash to spend before the public assistance kicks in.
