State Dept: Iraq Has Been ‘Good For The Effort To Reduce Terrorism’
Yesterday, the State Department released its annual terrorism report, showing that the number of terrorist attacks worldwide rose by 20,000 (40 percent) last year. Iraq accounted for nearly two-thirds of last year’s terrorism-related deaths. The number of terrorism “incidents in Iraq rose 91 percent, from 3,468 in 2005 to 6,630 in 2006.”

At yesterday’s briefing on the report, a reporter asked whether, in light of the skyrocketing death count in Iraq, the Iraq war has “been good for the effort to reduce terrorism generally.” Frank C. Urbancic, the State Department’s Coordinator for Counter-Terrorism, agreed and defended the war, stating that “if the battle against terrorism isn’t in Iraq, it’s going to be somewhere else.”

He then added, “I mean, Iraq is at least a relatively friendly place. The people of Iraq are deserving people and they deserve better and it’s good for us to help them”:

1. One has to parse that statement correctly.
It has indeed been good for the effort, the way the war on drugs has been good for the effort to incarcerate lots of people for nothing much. The process of reducing terrorism has become a huge corrupt business, one that needs lots of terrorism to keep itself healthy, just as the prison industrial complex needs lots of criminals to balance their books.

I agree with the state department.

2. The battle in Iraq is not against terrorism: it's a battle for Iraq's oil reserves: terrorism, twit
State Department spokesman, can happen in more than one place in this great big world, you double-talking/speaking double twit.

3. Phony 'wars' and pseudo-democracies are good for producing terrorism........
and great for corrupt corporate business. It is comforting to know 'WE' are such good guys for helping Iraq become the greatest terrorist target in the world.

4. How do these people have any credibility whatsoever?
And why don't the reporters just bust out laughing or start carrying torches and pitchforks for when these clowns start lying like this? Yeah, it's a good thing Iraq is so "friendly"; I'd hate to see us occupying an unfriendly nation. Sheesh. Spoken like a true REMF.

5. I'm glad that Iraq is such a friendly place.
It's important to 700,000 victims that they die in friendly places. And it's really wonderful that so many can first be tortured in a friendly place.

And this approach is sure to inspire other nations to be 'friends of the U.S.,' so they too can enjoy such benefits.

6. I'll bet a million bucks that this guy can't find one Iraqi (still there) who believes
that deserve what the USA has brought them.

7. In my fantasy a reporter listening to this BS would
pipe in and ask this idiot if he was joking. "Excuse me, but you were joking, right?" The guy would answer that he wasn't and the reporter would reply: "Man, you need to see a psychiatrist ASAP."

8. Of course the opposite is true, but why quibble with the facts?
