Nancy Pelosi did an incredible job and it's her b'day this week. Is anyone up for sending her roses?

Seriously, could YOU have herded those cats?

Last night there were half a dozen folks who independently came up with this idea, and I thought I'd see a thread by this morning -- but no, sadly what I'm seeing is several good old DU brawls in the mud and the blood and the beer.

Are any of you who still remember why we were happy last night up for this idea at all?

Hekate

2. No. We had to drag her kicking and screaming into doing this.
And Dickless Harry still might fuck the whole thing up in The Senate.

19. I doubt it. Even if some minor changes are made there the House will still pass it
as amended

The 33 percent increase in our insurance premium this month ought to buy all the roses their little hearts desire.

5. She'll be 70 on Friday March 26th.
That happens to be my birthday too, yeah!!

She's exactly 15 years older than I am.

It must be cool to have a grandma who is Speaker of the House.

7. I hope you get a nice response as I think this is a good idea...
I also hope you aren't visited by those who appear to detest Nancy Pelosi (as my congratulatory post in her honor did last night)....

I'm not able to donate right now (my apologies), but I hope you are as successful as when we did so with Helen Thomas.

8. I was happy with the legislation passing, for a few reason. But what I think on mostly is character.
Edited on Mon Mar-22-10 03:43 PM by RandomThoughts
I believe President Obama, and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, along with many Senators and Representatives are mostly good people.

In my view they have shown character, and both an empathy for their neighbor, and desires for more justice and defense of ideas of representative rule, through democracy. Those actions I support, so I support those people.

So was the legislation perfect? no, but the people pushing for it are better then average, and therefore should be supported in my view. Especially since we are a Republic that tries to elect people of character, and those people of character should be supported.

My support of the legislation does not only come from the presumed effects from the legislation, but because it was supported by people I respect, therefore I believe the effects to be better then if it failed.

Edit: Meant to post this in a different thread LOL, So

Happy Birthday Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, to stay on topic. :)

Contact Skinner et al. about starting a fundraiser for the idea. I have no idea what you would do further. I suppose it would be contacting a florist, posting prices/choices, creating a PayPal account, etc.

No one is stopping you (unless you are given the no-go from DU admins).

edit: double word

25. So, did you start the process?
Since you didn't come back to your thread, I was kind of wondering how it was going.

When should people get back to you? Is this a PM thing?

28. I was HOPING that one of our DUers who had done this before...
... would jump up this morning and get things going, because I don't have any idea how to make this happen financially. I was hoping I could just donate.

 Darn, now I don't know what to do.

15. I'll help with the roses for her.
I'm not a fan of the bill, but The Speaker did a hell of a job of getting it done.

It is quite rational to be glad the bill passed while not at all liking the bill itself - hard though that seems to be for so many black and white thinkers to comprehend.

23. Skip the roses and donate to a needy Democrat's campaign fund
Identify those who are going to have a fight on their hands and pour some money toward them. That will be a much better investment and last longer than roses. And Nancy will appreciate it much more!

26. Absolutely NOT.
In a matter of weeks, I guarantee we'll want to send her thistles instead for some blunder she'll undoubtedly commit.

Besides, she's getting plenty of adulation right now from people with a lot more money, power and influence than us.

29. Apologies: I don't think I can do this myself. Unless an experienced DUer sets up the account...
... or whatever it is, I am going to have to withdraw this idea. I was hoping to just find a thread where I could donate to the cause.

Again, apologies. And :grouphug:

What I think I will do is send her a birthday card via the US mail, with a letter expressing my personal thanks.
