Anybody else nervous about the crazies? |
|
I have a bad feeling that somebody on the right is going to do something nutty. I don't know what. But I fear something really bad could happen.
I hope I am wrong.

The one Glenn Beck and company are hankering to see all lit up and ready for the revolution.

14. Yes, it only takes one crazy, like one who will fly a plane into a building |
|
and be hailed as a hero. A good many of those people are nearly unhinged anyways and as Beck and Rush whip them into a frenzy it will be easy for some to go over the edge. I would not be surprised.
The irony is that once they do that it will be over. There will be far too many independents who will simply be disgusted by them.

there is nothing we can do.
It is the plague of living in interesting times.
I console my self with this.
Freedom is dangerous We either accept the danger and live free, Or mitigate the risk and live in tyranny.
I choose freedom.

8. Lots of people on DU have guns... |
|
...what is your point?
Guns are not the problem; the crazies are the problem. They will use whatever they have...

in....oh,.....quite some time....
For some reason the RWers convinced themselves that Leftists are ALL anti-gun and would just helplessly fold up and die of the righties were to actually attack us. I usually try to correct this error, but lately I am just waiting for their "big day"....

7. They're a sore that's always been under America's coat. With the election of... |
|
...a negro to the White House its brought all the infection to the surface. I would rather let this long-festering wound be exposed to the air for a few decades and let it be seen for how disgusting it is, and eventually heal, then keep it under unchanged bandages and have the infection spread.
The role of minorities in America, their growing numbers and the eventual replacement of caucasians as the majority is inevitable. Although, like you, I am concerned for the course the fever will take, I think it's better in the long run that we just get used to the fact that we've got nutters in the family and we make that point clear to visiting guests.

I'm not "nervous," but I am fully expecting something to happen soon. There is a short history of batshit crazy things going on around the time of Hitler's birthday on April 20, so mark your calendars now. We have a volatile mix of inciteful rhetoric pouring out of televisions and radios, a permanently disaffected and pissed-off segment of society that fervently believes "might makes right," and a country simply awash in cheap and easy-to-acquire firearms. It's not a question of "if," it's a question of "when."

Especially the ones who believe they are doing "God's Will". They tend to roll a whole bag of crazy into their philosophy.

13. My concern is long term. |
|
Maybe there will be a "dying off" of the older wingnuts that will reduce the percentage of these people in the population below the danger point. But what if there's not? With the Internet, even a small group can make a lot of trouble for even a large country (ask al Qaeda).
If the government keeps trending Democratic (as demographics suggest it will), at some point a critical mass of conservatives may simply declare themselves "independent" of the government in some manner: not paying any taxes, advocating state nullification of laws they don't like, or all laws (or even secession), electing separate leaders and "legislatures", forming vigilante groups to commit anti-government terrorist acts, etc., etc.
Is this inevitable? Where is the counterforce? Will the corporations (who hold the true power in America) put up with or even encourage a "revolution", or are they better served by a pretend democracy with docile citizens like we have now?
It's not too soon to begin considering these questions. IMHO.
