Freedom Works, a Washington, D.C. based advocacy group that latched onto the Tea Party movement last year is now threatening to abandon the grassroots movement in the face of a propaganda onslaught by the Democrat party and the media.

Speaking to Politico, Freedom Works spokesman Adam Brandon said that media reports smearing Tea Party protesters as racists could cause Freedom Works to give up its support for the movement:

"Tattoos last forever,” said Brandon, quoting his boss, FreedomWorks chairman and former House Republican Leader Dick Armey. “If the movement gets tattooed as at all sympathetic to those (racist and homophobic) views, I won’t want to be involved in it anymore. It’s very distracting not only to our side but also to the debate and the country.”

The failure of so-called Tea Party leaders to stand up to the Democrat/Media smear machine this weekend has given the machine an opening to hurt the movement that they are exploiting. From personal experience I know that 99.999 percent of the Tea Party movement are decent people who would not yell the things the Democrat/Media machine is accusing them of yelling. For Freedom Works to talk about shunning them because the Democrats and the media smear them is an insulting betrayal, but to be expected from the inside the Beltway crowd.

But the big thing I see is that the republicans in congress catered to this bunch of morons, and while it looks like Armey has found a way to distance himself and his group from these clowns, the republicans running for re-election are going to have to make a choice. Do they do the same thing and throw them under the bus so they can try and get back some kind of sense of "sanity" in their race? If they piss off the teabaggers they will find themselves in a pickle running not only against a democrat in November, but they could also be facing a teabagger candidate, and that won't help them get elected! I think it will be interesting to see if those morons in congress who have been putting all their eggs into the basket that said HCR would NOT be passed, and "used" the teabaggers will also join Armey and his group in throwing them all under the bus! :evilgrin:

Yes, 99.999 percent of the Tea Party movement are decent people who have no problem marching with people with signs that portray President Obama with a bone in his nose, or with white face (the transverse of the clearly racist black face used in minstrel shows), or with blatant threats of violence written on them. People who have no problem cheering on other people throwing out racial, homophobic and anti-Semitic epithets and other abhorrent behaviors of others in the group including throwing money at a disabled man while mocking him and acting like spoiled brat 2-year-olds in the house chambers.
