My wonderful 15 year old son ( read this- it is great) |
|
So my 15 year old son is always talking politics- even in a computer science class. His teacher (we'll call him Mr . Jones) is a right wing loon. The day after the Massachusetts special election Mr. Jones wrote "41" on the blackboard, pointing out to my son that the Democrats no longer had a filibuster proof majority. My son, (we'll call him Dan ) was ticked. So last night we were watching the vote and after it was passed, Dan said to me, "I know what I'm doing tomorrow". I asked him what he had planned. He said " I get into the room before Mr. Jones. I'm writing 219 on the board. He did and got the evil eye from the teacher! Did I mention that I really love the boy????

That's what good old Mr. Jones gets for pushing his political agenda.

Your son and mine would get along splendidly. Thankfully this year he has a progressive AP history teacher, but last year was hell for he and our oldest daughter with the election and all. Your son stood up for himself and respectfully!

Good to hear about a 15 year old being in touch with what is going on in the world! I do hope his teacher is not the vindictive type, though!

My kid is silent during the pledge of allegiance and has been since 2nd grade. Thinks Bush is totally stupid and Republicans mean. :patriot: To our kids.

And you know what? The kids will remember that too!
I personally have never forgotten how my art teacher wrote "Congratulations Billy Jean King" on her own board in 1973. (Yes, she spelled it "Billy." That's one of the things I remember.)
Just as I will always remember that day and what it meant to us girls--seeing that a woman COULD beat a man at a sport, no matter how much he bragged about how inferior we were--your son's classmates will remember the passage of HCR as the day your son wrote "219" on the board.
Ed. for another spelling fix--there's irony for ya!

I hope he continues to be active in politics. I joined Young Democrats when I was 15 and I am 62 and still a Democrat. It has been overall a great experience. Everyone should be as involved in the government of this country as your son and as aware of what goes on around them. He rocks.
