The View From Your Recession

22 Mar 2010 05:10 pm

A reader writes:

I posted an ad on craiglist for an $8.55 minimum-wage, part-time person to work at our dog kennel in Snohomish, Washington. The job is not glamorous. Picking up poop, walking dogs cleaning diarrhea, etc. I received over 245 resumes in just a couple of days. Everybody from the high school kid up to the unemployed 60 year old. It's simply amazing how many people are dying to get even a low paying job like this.

1. So funny you posted this - I was just going to start a new thread about this Depression.
I'm am honestly scared about the unemployment rate and the lack of jobs. It's hard enough when you actually have a job, but add in decimated savings, 401(k)'s reduced to rubble - I mean, these are some scary times.

3. MrUP is a self employed carpenter, we've gotten several calls from people out of state asking if he
is hiring. For some reason many from Montana have called, but we've gotten calls from other states also. No, he's a sole prop, works by himself. "won't you please take my name and number though, just in case?" No, sorry, good luck.

It is scary, esp when he has had very little work in the last yr (does small jobs from hanging doors to remodels).

6. Jobs Jobs Jobs...
It really is very simple... embark on a giant USA Rebuilding.

Green energy.. high speed rail.. highways.. schools.. small high-tech Nuclear plants.... local agriculture... job training.. tool and die.. wind turbines.

We need 33 Million jobs just to be at full employment.. and there is no reason we should not be able to do that.

Yes.. it will expand the deficit short term.. but we have to prime the pump.

Oh, and BTW.. quit sending technology to CHINA and ISRAEL... (you Morans (sic) in Washington, D.C.) Fer Chris sakes... is everyone in Washington Brain-dead?
