I just don't know
I have an eight year old.

Her mom has two brain cysts and parkinsons, as well as asthma and depression. She has also had ovarian cancer - twice.

My X, her mom, was adopted. And for all I know my daughter will develop some of the same medical problems.

Outside of the mandates in this HCR bill - there was a provision about pre-existing conditions.

Hannah may end up with these same issues. She may not. But sure as hell some health insurance company somewhere would get wind of it all and deny her care if they could.

I just don't know why there is such an uproar over all of this. MOST of the bill had/has nothing to do with mandates to buy care (and even there you have religious exemptions and tax breaks/etc).

Here is a solution - if the insurance companies don't want to cover such folks they should support a public option.

What recourse would I have in this country if no insurance company would cover my daughter? I would be at their mercy - and we have all seen their version of mercy (it only extends to their bottom line).

This HCR is a start, and it is the biggest start we have had ever on this issue.

I would rather work to fix something we have passed to help people, than to work to fix something that just does not exist at all.

Perfect? Nope. And I am one of those people who can find fault in it. But damn, we are now one step closer. And that is something more than we have had in all of my life.

It ain't over - but it has started finally.

3. Yes, our family has had at least one person in the last 6 generations
who exhibited some form of mental illness. I too welcome this bill. I also have a child who is developmentally disabled because of chemicals in the well water. She is high cost and would have been thrown off any insurance program until today. Fortunately for us we have always been poor and had those wonderful health care programs from the government - Medicaid & Medicare.

4. I'm glad it passed too
For that very reason. People have a fighting chance today that we didn't have yesterday. And it was a step in the right direction. It will be expanded and altered just like Social Security and Medicare was. The good thing is that there now something to work with.

5. We have just empowered insurance companies to to anything they want to her
Just because she is forced to buy insurance doesn't mean thay have to pay claims.

9. There are NO enforcement provisions! Feinstein's amendment creating an actual regulatory agency
--was shot down. Insurers retain their antitrust exemption, which effectively forces enforcement upon cash-strapped states. CA is now refusing to enforce its recission law because they don't have the money to go up against Anthem.

11. Here are ten benefits which come online within six months
And here are some other things:

Here are ten benefits which come online within six months of the President's signature on the health care bill:

1. Adult children may remain as dependents on their parents’ policy until their 27th birthday
2. Children under age 19 may not be excluded for pre-existing conditions
3. No more lifetime or annual caps on coverage
4. Free preventative care for all
5. Adults with pre-existing conditions may buy into a national high-risk pool until the exchanges come online. While these will not be cheap, they’re still better than total exclusion and get some benefit from a wider pool of insureds.
6. Small businesses will be entitled to a tax credit for 2009 and 2010, which could be as much as 50% of what they pay for employees’ health insurance.
7. The “donut hole” closes for Medicare patients, making prescription medications more affordable for seniors.
8. Requirement that all insurers must post their balance sheets on the Internet and fully disclose administrative costs, executive compensation packages, and benefit payments.
9. Authorizes early funding of community health centers in all 50 states (Bernie Sanders’ amendment). Community health centers provide primary, dental and vision services to people in the community, based on a sliding scale for payment according to ability to pay.
10. AND no more rescissions. Effective immediately, you can't lose your insurance because you get sick.http://crooksandliars.com/karoli/what-you-get-when-hcr-passes

13. I've seen that and I'm not impressed
The comparatively small number that actually get benefits only makes those left behind much more invisible.

10. We are in the same boat with our daughter who inherited my multiple medical issues
she could never get health insurance on her own and I don't know if she will ever be strong enough to actually get through college and get a job as badly as she wants to.... It's a horrible loss, a horrible tragedy for our family, but at least I can rest knowing that she will at least be able to get medical care, she will need it if my bills and her already piling up bills are any indication.

12. So far my daughter is healthy - but with past medical history who knows?
And insurance companies are more than ready to ditch anyone who is suspect.
