Help me debunk or verify the 17k IRS agents.
Got a squirrely one saying the bill hires 17,000 IRS agents.

I think he is referring to a scary memo from the minority staff on ways and means, but I'm not sure.

Please help. When I google, all I get is reichwing sites from the last day or three.

1. ??? If that's his assertion, ask HIM to cite his sources.
Why are you doing his research for him, and asking people here to help? It's his claim, let him back it up. If he can't, then don't waste your time on it.

Rule #1 in dealing with trolls is not to accept anything they say at face value. If they don't give you a source that you can use to verify something independently then then treat it as bullshit. If they call you names, then stop arguing with them.

7. Yes, and?
What are you, his secretary? If he believes bullshit with no source, that is not your problem. Tell him that talk is cheap, but your time is expensive so you are not going to waste it debating rumors.

15. I disagree, when someone says this shit publically, call them out.
You lie, I call you a liar, and I do it with my ducks in a row.

Otherwise, they grow like weeds.

Or do you think this nonsense will just go away?

5. This is the best thing I could find
http://republicans.waysandmeans.house.gov/News/DocumentSingle.aspx?DocumentID=176997

"IRS may need to hire as many as 16,500 additional auditors, agents and other employees to investigate and collect billions in new taxes from Americans;"

It's from the republicans on the Ways and Means committee.

8. Where do I sign up?
The IRS ordinarily wouldn't be my first choice, but what the fuck.... at this point stable federal employment would be an improvement. I wonder if they I could make it a condition of my employment that I only audit Republicans?

12. This is an idiotic lie.
When it comes time for the mandate to kick in, you will:

1. Receive a form every January from your insurance company that resembles the form 1098 that you get from your mortgage company now.

2. You will transfer the amount listed on the form to your 1040 on the proper line, or enter "zero" if you don't have any insurance.

3. Depending on your income and what your insured status is, your tax will go up, go down, or stay the same.

4. No additional IRS employees will be required.

They'll never stop lying, will they?

13. try this
A new analysis by the Joint Economic Committee and the House Ways & Means Committee minority staff estimates up to 16,500 new IRS personnel will be needed to collect, examine and audit new tax information mandated on families and small businesses in the ‘reconciliation’ bill being taken up by the U.S. House of Representatives this weekend.

http://www.conservativeblogwatch.com/2010/03/19/16500-new-irs-agents-will-be-needed-to-enforce-obamacare/

The minority staff made it up!

16. Go to this link at factcheck.org
http://www.factcheck.org/2010/01/enforcing-the-individual-mandate/
It doesn't mention additional agents but ends with this quote:
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimated that the IRS, under the House and Senate bills, may need an additional $5 billion to $10 billion in funding over 10 years to implement the bill’s provisions. The IRS now receives about $12 billion per year in federal money for operating expenses.
So the IRS may need 1 or 2 Billion dollars annually to enforce the mandate. 1,000,000,000 divided by 17,000 equals $58,824, twice that for 2 billion. That may be what they get their "facts." The additional money may go for technology and not for additional agents.
